Do TTTs YP or is there something wrong with my app?

I applied to a school last year. I was above the median GPA and at median LSAT and I was waitlisted. I took a year off and retook. My GPA is median (remained the same) and for this cycle, my LSAT is 8 points above median for this TTT. I just got waitlisted. If given enough $$$, and if other things went to shit, I might have actually attended. For me, it was a legitimate option if things fell into place. But now, I don't even have this option. Wtf...

My cycle has thus far been really disappointing. I EDed Cornell and I got waitlisted. My only offer so far is from WUSTL. Haven't heard back from the others yet. Applied to about 20 schools.

Maybe I'm overthinking at this point but I did take a year off to take the LSAT a 4th time. I got a better score, but so far, this cycle kind of sucks.

TLDR: Waitlisted at a TTT. Do TTTs YP? I've never heard of that before. Starting to worry that there is something wrong with my app.

Sorry to hear it man. Congrats on WUSTL. I wouldnt fret over that TTT now. Who gives a shit? Didn't you turn down Loyola w/ $$ anyway? I do think the ED WL from Cornell is strange given a 167, but maybe their early decision just doesnt have a bump. Have you looked over the app?

Keep yer head up. Dont be too disappointed if you get locked out of the T14 with below median gpa and 4 takes, but you should get competitive scholarship offers from some 165/166 median schools in the T20. Negotiate the shit out of it

I've read online that mediocre schools occasionally engage in YP for wildly overqualified applicants. Joshua Craven's blog wrote about this, for example (though I have no idea if that is considered a credible source). It sounds plausible.

I've also heard that about TTT and YP.

I'm on board with jbagelboy's suggestion. You're score is good for schools in the T20, apply to a bunch of schools around WUSTL's ranking, get into a few and negotiate. Also, keep an eye on Cornell's wait list. I don't know if it's like UVA where they wait list a ton of people and don't really pull from it or whether it's more normalized but unless a school rejects you it is worth the minimal effort of following up with them every once in a while.

Now that you're off the hook from Cornell, consider applying ED to uva.

isn't it a little late to apply ED?

No, and I did.

Yeah, just waiting for the decisions from the T20s now. It was still kind of a shocker that I didn't even get an offer from this school though. But I guess it doesn't really matter in the grand scheme of things as a lot of things would have to happen to make me go there (including things happening outside of law school). Hell, there's a decent chance I might not even attend law school.

Thanks for all the replies. Won't let a TTT decision get to my head.

American is the worst YPer period, so I wouldn't be surprised if other lower ranked schools did the same.

To answer your original question: YES some TT and TTT are notorious for YP. Apparently some of them have a inferiority complex.

It still kinda stings though. This TTT's median dropped 3 points last year.

I can kind of see why now. I have no idea what their strategy is. Seems ridiculous at this point considering that looking back at last year's stats, I was actually above both medians. I wasn't above them by much, but apparently enough to get waitlisted. No wonder they dropped 3 points.

I know exactly which school u r talking about man...trust me USC will let you in with $$$. Don't worry about other t20 yet. There is nothing that we can do about it...I'm also waiting to hear back from my reach/target schools...
