UNC Chance 163 3.65

Post by Yanky91 » Wed Jan 15, 2014 1:47 am

What are my chances as an out-of-state applicant to UNC with a 163 LSAT and a 3.65 gpa? I know it is way more competitive for OOS applicants. 75% of UNC's class is in-state. Do I have a shot? This is my top school.

Just commented on your other post but I got in w/ a 163, 3.5 OOS.

So I am sure you will be fine!

UNC is one of my top choices as well. I'm from California, 163/3.6. Good luck.
Are you OOS? If you're in-state, apply to wake forest and leave that spot for me... hehehehe

I applied to both haha. Just wondering, why is UNC your top choice? Both UNC and Wake Forest are very strong schools, I'm surprised they get overlooked by the average user on this site.
Friends and family told me about the Chapel Hill area, I did lots of research on the school and their clinics really appeal to me. It has a great reputation. One of the partners that I know at a big firm went there and really liked it. I am also going to visit NC in the spring. Lastly, I want to leave the state I'm in now, but I don't want to go too far away, and the rank is not bad either :). Wake Forest is one that I'm interested in as well (I know someone who went there and joined the JAG and now works biglaw), but I messed up on my app. I sent out a PS with a grammar issue. I also looked over my PS post facto and spotted a couple of issues (ogranizational/thematical) that I fixed for UNC. I would be surprised if they accept me now.

Sure, their stats in Biglaw placement aren't exceptional, but they are better than reputable schools like Minnesota, Washington University and William and Mary. I think that if you aren't able to get into the T14 and schools like USC, UCLA and Vanderbilt, then UNC and Wake Forest are solid options.
I haven't compared the numbers to those schools, but mos def. UNC and Wake have good employment #s at a pretty good price. I also like UNC's honors system. Connecticut, then Cali, then NC? That's what I call gettin' round 8) I've just been stuck in the Northeast my entire life.

Do you guys who want to go to UNC or WF have ties to that area?
No actual ties to the area, but ties to surrounding states. I wouldn't mind being in NC for 3 years or more.

Where did you go for undergrad? Northeast definitely isn't a bad place to be stuck in.

Local school in Maryland. If I don't get into UNC or Wake Forest or a comparable school out of state, I might just retake the exam and shoot even higher, but I would prefer not to waste a year. It sounds kinda weird, but I'm really eager to start law school.

I have ties to the Southeast, but not to NC or SC. I'm anxiously awaiting scholarship news from Wake Forest...if they offer a big package, they'll be in the running of my top 4-5.

A little bit of a bump, but I just got in with 3.33/162 OOS. Application completed the first week of January, heard back less than three weeks later.

The vast majority of their employment success comes from in-state students, or otherwise southern students. Why are people applying from the other side of the country and assuming the same base-rate will apply to them? Does not compute.

Congrats. That's awesome. My app was completed early January as well. My status just says complete now.

Thanks man. If you happened to go to an LSAC Forum or any other event where you met with someone from admissions, holla at them.

I kept up a relationship with someone there and got a phone call from her on MLK Day congratulating me because she was going to be out of the office all week and wanted to do it personally. I was very happy about that.
