drastic upward grade trend

Postby gnomgnomuch » Sat Jan 04, 2014 3:39 pm

Hey All!,

My dream school is Boalt law, and while my GPA is just under their 25%, it should get just above it by the time I apply. However my GPA hasn't been steady, I had a rocky start to college my freshman year (3.22, 3.34) then I got my shit together (3.838, 4.0, 3.925) leaving my GPA at a 3.63 right now, with a possibility of getting it to a 3.7 by the time I start applying.

since I have consistently shown (and will continue to show) a much higher GPA - that is more indicative of my abilities - then what I received my Freshman year of college, is there a way id get in Boalt? Is there a way id get any money, especially through their matching scholarship program? assuming my LSAT is ~170ish.

I have decent softs (Model UN, write for school newspaper, working, internships) but nothing spectacular, and I already have one absolutely killer LOR lined up. I'm not a URM.

Thanks to everyone who'll take the time to read and/(or) answer!

You certainly have a shot. I think Berkeley is one of those schools where it's best to apply early in the cycle (i.e. October to November-ish). When are you taking the LSAT?

If you get your GPA up to 3.7 and actually get a 170 (which, btw, you shouldn't count on), you've got a 50-50 chance at Berkeley. Not sure if the upward trend will count for anything, but I doubt it'll significantly effect your cycle. Now go study.

Yea, if you end up with a ~3.7, hit that ~172, and apply early, you'll have a fighting chance (maybe better).
