Re: most lucrative area of law
It varies a ton obviously, but I think that partners at big firms in Silicon Valley who do IP law are among the highest paid lawyers around.

Re: most lucrative area of law
The thing is, within a particular practice area, those lawyers who are more highly paid are going to be the ones that are better at it, generally speaking. For that reason you should think just as seriously (or more) about what area of law you will be good at (which is related to what you think you'll find the most interesting/rewarding) as about what area of law would, IF YOU WERE GOOD AT IT, pay best.
That should kind of be a given, though, since if you're not planning on really wanting to be a lawyer of one kind or another and you just plan on slogging it out for the paycheck, you've got a grim battle and would probably have been better off going into some sort of financial industry.

Plaintiffs' PI. Maybe not average, but certainly high upper limit.

Agreed. The rainmakers here are pulling in far more than the biglaw partners.
Yes. A really good plaintiff attorney (i.e. someone that gets good cases on a consistent basis) earns substantially more than a big law partner.

Both pretty damn hard and both are pretty low percentage chances...
