Is Virginia worth the cost at sticker?

Postby tlsforumid » Fri Dec 13, 2013 3:08 pm

Hey everybody. If I had the option for Vanderbilt with 40,000 scholarship (for a 3 years tuition total of 105,000), Duke with 20,000 (for a 3 years tuition total of 140,000) or virginia at sticker (160,000) which should I choose? Thanks.

Do you actually have these options? Has Duke started sending out financial aid offers?

Couldn't go to law school yet-family comes first. Couple deaths and one big disease with an immediate family member made me need to stick around for a while

I think it really depends on what your end goal is. Do you want big law?

I would think it would just come down to preference between Duke and UVA if the cost amount is correct.

If those numbers are correct, there is a case for Virginia if you prefer it. But is Duke really normally $40K more expensive than UVA?

Lulz

Anyway, UVA isn't worth 20K more than Duke in this universe or any other unless you have some super compelling reason to need to be in Charlottesville. They're peers.

If these are really options then Duke is the obvious choice.

Hopefully you are also looking at total cost of attendance, because $160k sounds low.

Not really interesting. More like sad. There are five people from my family using this forum id.

Unless someone is paying your living expenses, sticker is more like $225,000. Not even HYS is worth it at that cost. I'm looking at ~$143k total debt at graduation and that is going to cost me nearly 5 years of $3k/month loan payments. Add about 3 more years of $3k/month to that in your case.
