Suit up for HLS info session?

Postby armysgt » Sat Oct 26, 2013 8:44 pm

HLS is going to visit my school next week for an info session. Should I wear a suit and tie?

My pre-law advisor says it's okay not to and most people probably won't, but I want to look professional and to me, a suit and tie = professional. Will I look silly doing so?

Also, anybody been to one of these? What are they like? What kinds of questions do people ask?

whether you wear a suit or not will have literally zero impact on admissions. as will pretty much anything else you do minus doing something felonious

You would most definitely look silly in a suit. Don't get me wrong -- there will be people there wearing suits, but they will also look ridiculous.

They're not going to keep track of names or remember you or anything. And it's just an info session. Wear whatever you would normally wear to school.

Expect to get laughed out of the building if you don't show up in a tux + top hat

Okay the general consensus is that I shouldn't wear a suit.

The reason I asked was because for info sessions for banking/consulting jobs, wearing a suit was a given. I just wasn't sure quite what the norm was since, although law school is school, it is a professional school, after all.

Those are for actual jobs, not a school, though it still shocks me they would expect you to show up for a lecture-hall-sized info sessions in a suit.

It's a reasonable question. I understood why you asked it.

Wear a tuxedo t-shirt. Best of both worlds.

Okay :)

But my school is kind of small so it's actually more like a small classroom size info session (maximum seating capacity of 30 maybe?).

Thanks; I don't know if the some of the other people were just being good-natured or mocking me though haha

Thanks everyone for your input!!
