Typo in Ps!!

Post by Pancakes12 » Fri Oct 18, 2013 5:20 pm

Realized I misspelled "led" as "lead"... Applied to HLS... It's in the last paragraph. Forget about it or send in a new copy?

Solid advice for sure, but is it going to affect my chances with them?

They probably wont read that shit bro. All they care about are your numbers. I promise you that.

It isn't that clear cut. Some people with great numbers get rejected. That has to be for a reason. In all honesty, what should I do?

There is a high probability this won't get discovered. I wouldn't draw attention to it by sending another ps.

Alright thanks. But if it were discovered.... How much of an impact do you think it would have?

Zero. People who are denied with higher numbers are denied BECAUASe of yield protection. I can't imagine them denying someone because of a typo in their PS.

There's no empirical answer to your question. We don't know how much of an impact. However, if it had a big effect we would see more variance on lsn. There are likely minor errors in many applications, and yet admissions numbers are not that inconsistent.

I agree that it's not likely to have much of an effect, but I also doubt that Harvard is dinging very many high scorers for yield protection. Rather, they're one of the few schools with enough high-quality applicants that they can afford to look beyond the numbers and make decisions based on softs, without worrying about their medians.

FWIW:

Improbably enough, this exact thing happened to me (typo in the final paragraph of my PS to HLS, where I was a fringe candidate). I sent in a fresh version and got in. No clue if it helped. My opinion: Might as well send in a fixed copy.

I know someone who included the name of the wrong law school in one of his personal statements to a T-14 and he still got in.
