How much important is grad. school's GPA?

Post by 15chocolate » Sat Oct 12, 2013 10:05 pm

Hi,
I'm not sure whether this is the right place to ask but...
Does anyone know whether they take into account graduate school's GPA along with undergrad. school's GPA?
Or they only see the grad. school's GPA? (and do not care about undergrad school's GPA?)
I think grad school would be much harder, so not sure whether they see the GPA in the same way as undergrad. school's GPA...
Also, where should they get recommendation letters?
From undergrad school's professors or grad school's professors?
Thank you in advance.

Law schools only care about undergraduate GPA, because that's the GPA that affects their medians, which ultimately affects their rank.

You can get recommendations from grad school professors though. Or undergrad. Doesn't really matter because rec letters hardly matter at all.

strong thread title.

Ugpa is all that matters, and your assumptions about grad being harder are completely backwards.

Grad school may be harder but most programs give almost all As and A-s. Not that it matters at all for law school admissions unless you did really poorly, in which case adcoms might wonder about your ability to complete law school successfully.

It'll be viewed as a soft but nothing that will overcome your core numbers.

Titcr. I think not completing at all could also be a negative soft.

If your graduate GPA is lower than your UGPA, you ought to be ashamed of yourself.

If your graduate GPA is higher, no one cares.

Use search function. But answer= 0.0000000000000000001 factor, if that, unless super prestigious PhD program or something.

Grad school grades are irrelevant if good, and very relevant if bad.

Exception: Yale

No.

What makes you think very relevant if bad? I mean if you failed out maybe, but otherwise I think you are wrong. No real diff if either good or bad. UGPA and LSAT is really all that matters, unless extremely good softs or serious problems.

Grad school grades were pretty much all I was asked about during my interview with JS, and mine weren't even that bad. Of course they matter.

In the context of applying to Harvard Law, I would agree that grad school grades/school/major would be significant. But that's because HLS isn't really worried about the effects of GPA and LSAT scores on their USNWR rankings; they could fill their incoming class with 99th percentile LSAT/GPA candidates if they wanted to, so they have to differentiate based on soft factors. Once you get outside of HYS and into the schools that are in the FIGHT OF THEIR LIVES to maintain medians, softs matter less.
