Studied abroad for less than a year

Postby grumpycat » Wed Jul 31, 2013 12:23 am

Hi all! still kinda new here so if this is a bad question, please bear with me.
I have a question. I studied abroad for a 6 week term (Summer session 1) at the American University in foreign city
I know that every transcript from every college you've ever been to needs to be sent, so I thought this one would have to be sent in too. But lately, I've been reading that if you didn't spend time at the institution for more than a year you don't need to send it in? Or am I completely wrong about this?
Please help me clarify people of TLS like you always do!

Yea, the usual expectation is to send them all the grades you have received in college, whether that's a semester at a community college or six weeks in a foreign country (for academic credit).

See what describes your study abroad arrangement in these links. I didn't submit my transcript for one year of study abroad, and no one asked for it.

I called LSAC recently to clarify this point. I spent 5 months abroad, and it was with an american institution overseas. I originally thought that since I wasnt abroad for a year+, I wouldnt need to submit the transcript. After LSAC uploaded my UG transcript, however, there was a notation- "unacknowledged transcript" - from the american institution I went to during my semester abroad. When I called to clarify, I was told that it makes a difference whether you're abroad in a foreign v. american institution. Anyway, I dont know if you are in the same boat since I'm not sure whether your UG notated the overseas classes on any transcripts (in which case, you wouldnt have an unacknowledged transcript/institution), but if I were you, I'd call LSAC to see what they say.

edit: seems like Ti Malice already provided the relevant links/answers. thanks!

Not sure how this fits with what others are saying, but I had a similar question (I audited a class at an American university in Europe one summer during college) and when I emailed LSAC to ask about it, the reply I got said that the school "is considered to be a domestic school and therefore you are required to have a transcript sent from the school." I sent in the transcript and the school does show up on my academic summary report, but it had no impact on my GPA because the class was just audited.

My study abroad was applied directly to my UG transcript and I didn't need to send in any additional materials. You could also check to make sure that's not the case for you. Though, to be on the safe side, you can always just send it in anyway.

wow i love all the input! Yeah, it seems the general consensus is to just send the transcript in either way. I haven't got anything to lose and i'm not particularly lazy so I'll be doing exactly that! Thanks for all your help people! :D
