Fulbright Research vs. Fulbright English Teaching Assisstant

Postby nothingtosee » Mon May 27, 2013 9:51 am

I see some law schools post the number of "Fulbright Fellows" or "Fulbright Scholars" on their incoming class profiles, so it looks like a soft that could actually help.

I received a Teaching assistantship, which is considerably less competitive (applicants vs. positions) than a research position.

Will there still be a boost? Will it be a smaller boost than research? Will it be the same so the school can put "Fulbright" on their profile?

Thanks.

Dont expect to outperform your numbers. It will help you if you are considered next to a K-JD with the same numbers. Research grant to Oxbridge maybe a bit more boost.

Unless you're 28+, go do it. Sell yourself on the idea that it will provide you with a decent boost come application time (which it will, though not completely outperforming your numbers).

You really won't get this kind of an opportunity again.

There won't be much of a boost in terms of Rhodes/Marshall/Fulbright/Truman etc. Schools are mostly interested in Fulbright research awards. They are aware of the difference between the two.

You will get a "boost" in the sense that you'll have work experience in a different country, but there are many avenues to accomplish that, like the Peace Corps, working for a random NGO, Yale-China, Princeton in Asia, etc.

I ask because I am currently between the 25-50 percentiles of GPA for my three target schools, while over the 75th for LSAT.
I'm doing TFA now, already did a Fulbright ETA, and am trying to calm my anxious mind.
I have a reach where I'm .05 under the 25% GPA and between 50-75% LSAT...

Can't help you without knowing what schools they are.
