It's cute how many people feel the need to project their lack of confidence on others. A plan could fail, but any plan could fail. Write that down.

Planning to transfer is a terrible plan. For many reasons, starting with the mandatory curve. Don't count on doing well enough to transfer.

I hear that it's not the best plan, but what makes reapplying a better one? I have no guarantee to get into a T7 school.

Your odds of transferring up to a significantly better school (5%, maaaaybe 10% on the extreme high end) are less than your odds of keeping your scholarship (20%).moshei24 wrote:romothesavior wrote:LOLmoshei24 wrote:Also, part of my plan is to work my ass off and transfer after my first year if I have the grades, which I'm confident I could pull off if I stay focused, which I tend to do my first year in school...

You're not guaranteed top 7 so go to a school with terrible placement that's plummeting in rank?moshei24 wrote:I hear that it's not the best plan, but what makes reapplying a better one? I have no guarantee to get into a T7 school.

Actually, this is more like it: http://www.mylsn.info/6dikri
But that includes ED at every school, which isn't realistic, so this is more realistic had I applied early: http://www.mylsn.info/uzj0i3
And I don't think I'd be at the median. I tend to be successful when I put the effort into what I do, and I don't think law school will be the magic exception. And this is not from an arrogant perspective; this is just how I make things turn out with what I attempt. I'm confident about it.
I'd go to school out of NYC, and possibly even work out of NYC, but my family is here, so that make COL better.

This is the most accurate, as putting 171 and 3.6 in the range gives skew results as those numbers are a lot better for middle T14 schools like Penn and NYU than 170/3.5 is.

You've so consistently furthered bad ideas in this thread I'm calling flame, but just in case, lets go over the actual facts.
These schools do not place well.
You WILL get into a better school if you apply earlier, period.
Transferring is a shit idea.
You can not predict where you will be in the class rank.

I have a pretty flawless track record when I work my ass off. I've only done so a few times in my life, though. And I'm not guaranteed to get into somewhere better. Bottom of T14 isn't necessarily a better deal, especially with pretty much no money, and the mid T14 are 50/50 from that site you showed me, as I showed you in the most accurate link.
Also, Fordham gives very few full scholarships, so LSAT score wise, I will likely be toward the top.
And also, what percent of my class would I need to be in in a T7 to get a good job? T50%? Is that easier than T15% in Fordham given that "smarter" (LSAT score wise) will be in the greater school?

Guys, I've had a decent back and forth via PM with this guy. This isn't a flame. Some people just don't like to be told to sit tight for a year. Also, if you guys went somewhere with grade inflation as rampant as Yeshiva University, you also would think it's easy to get above median. I doubt there is anywhere else in the world that manufactures more people with special snowflake syndrome. SSS could be good for motivation, but, can be bad, as here, when it clouds judgement.Clearlynotstefan wrote:You've so consistently furthered bad ideas in this thread I'm calling flame
Going to school with the goal of transferring is like making a move in chess that requires your opponent to make a mistake, otherwise, you lose your queen. It's not a well thought out plan, and certainly not worth 100K. Also, if you are in a good enough position to transfer after 1L, you might as well keep your scholly, cause you'll probably be getting a job.
But I think most of this has already been said. What needs to be driven home is how difficult it is to predict how well you will perform in law school. I'll just tell one story to drive the point home. We recently had a final exam which was all multiple choice (this is very rare, by the way). The questions were all hard and you could not possibly have been able to answer them without having studied and being smart (or being insanely luck I suppose). The median was 48 out of 55 questions. Moshe, does that tell you anything about what median is? It's not a crappy grade. It's a job well done. It means that you, like everyone else who is worried about not doing well (cause their job will depend on it), studied your ass off. But you are not awarded with being number 1. Also, this exam was not a 1L exam (which are much more competitive).

Okay, but that's a T6 school. The median in Fordham would be like 42-43/55.
