Not unless he was racially a URM with an Egyptian passport. Although according to demographic data, roughly 99% of the population is of "Egyptian ethnicity."

Only if he was a black Egyptian (e.g. Nubian). If he was a white or Arabic Egyptian, definitely not.

dammnit! it is sad that as a pakistani american i face challenges from islamophobes and am in the minority when it comes to race and ethnicity in the usa, but when it comes to law school admissions it is blacks and spanish who get the boost and not those who face even more challenges living in the states.

but this is a topic for another time

As an upper middle class white male, I often face the difficult challenges as well.

It's not about whether you are a minority in relation to the entire U.S. population. It's about whether you are underrepresented among students attending law school and then whether the percentage of SW Asian/Middle Eastern in the general population is similar to the percentage that make up law school students (I don't know how these percentages compare).

Asians are not considered URM because, while being a minority in the general U.S. population, are well-represented in law schools.

Also, I'd tread carefully about saying who faces "more challenges" in the United States. I can't say whether or not you're wrong, but that's an unproductive way to think about the situation as a whole. Latinos are also not "spanish." They just happen to speak Spanish for the most part.

Out of curiosity, let's assume for a second that OP actually had a Nubian (or otherwise black) Egyptian great great grandfather? Would OP qualify for URM status? I guess I'm wondering if there is a "one drop rule," and if so, how far it extends.

From here. Also, as you all probably know, nothing really prevents someone from "checking the box," but it can come back to bite them.
She wasn't disbarred and successfully secured a senate seat. Did it really come back to bite her? She should have been head of the consumer protection bureau, but not being appointed had more to do with politics than whether her "meemaw" was NA. I'm not advocating lying about one's URM status, but I don't think Warren is an example of what happens when you do lie.

It also seems like she honestly believed she was NA and had a long history of identifying that way. This should be seen differently than lying for a boost in law school admissions.

Well.... it came back to bite her in the sense that it gave the opposition some ammunition during the election. Outcomes aside, she took some flack for checking the box when she probably shouldn't have.
Fair enough. Although I doubt it would have come up if she weren't running for office and in fact it was only emphasized by Brown's campaign whenever he was down in the polls. Most law school graduates won't be seriously considered for the federal bench let alone a high-profile senate seat.

I'd like to see an example of someone who lied and faced actual consequences.

Good man. If you have the motivation, you can get into any law school you want. The only time URM status would truly help you is when your LSAT and GPA are not good enough.

...So much struggle in this thread

Technically, the archaic-American system in place classifies Arabs as white non-URMs.

There are white (maybe harder to register for law school) URMs, but they don't come from the Middle-East.
