Re: Law School Advertising Megathread
It is infuriating that law schools get to lie like this to students. I also don't get this standard that because school is so expensive people should not rely on statistics from the schools.NoodleyOne wrote:I'm aware that it isn't. I hope the cases that are proceeding to discovery will fare better than these two dismissed cases. I don't think there has been a ruling yet on reopening the case against NYLS based on the court of appeals discussion of the unethical behavior of the dean.

Maybe they shouldn't have hired lawyers who were also dumb enough to attend the same crappy TTTTs they were trying to sueNorth wrote:Buyer beware, brah.NoodleyOne wrote:See, that type of shit should be illegal.

too bad applicants can't mislead in the same way: "why yes, I have 99th percentile LSAT and GPA among my peers*"

I know Strauss went to Brooklyn but he clerked in EDNY.guano wrote:Maybe they shouldn't have hired lawyers who were also dumb enough to attend the same crappy TTTTs they were trying to sueNorth wrote:Buyer beware, brah.NoodleyOne wrote:See, that type of shit should be illegal.
Anziska went to Michigan.
I think they both had big law jobs?? not sure.I don't have time to look it up. No one has claimed they aren't up to the task. They are trying to make new law so they have an uphill battle.
The funnier thing is that afaik none of the schools have hired a grad to represent them.

No one gets away with what these schools are saying in any other context. If law school was a for profit hairdresser school, they would be subject to fraud for making these claims. Only our great profession lets schools get away with this shit.

Unfortunately, not true. This guy represented NYLS in their NY appellate case; see 956 N.Y.S.2d 54, 57.NYstate wrote:The funnier thing is that afaik none of the schools have hired a grad to represent them.

I lol'sd. I'd say you should begin the scholarship negotiation process with them, but that might be pushing it.Micdiddy wrote: Since I would love to work in the greater Sac area, can you tell me more about the career placement opportunities at McGeorge? Say you're facing a terrible dilemma, and that while you find NU's offer very flattering, your gut is telling you to enjoy McGeorge. Ask them what the advantages would be for picking McGeorge over NU, given the current state of the legal market--and ask for statistics to substantiate their claims.Micdiddy wrote:Not that good yet, how should i reply to guarantee lulz?
"Dear Micdiddy,
I hope this email reaches you because I am interested in considering you for admission to the McGeorge School of Law before our final application deadline of May 15.
If you have submitted your application, that is great! We look forward to reviewing your materials.
If you have not, you still have time to apply and take advantage of a waived application fee (a savings of $60).
Pacific McGeorge School of Law offers a collegial atmosphere and small, intensive classes taught by professors who care not only about your success as a student, but also about your future success in the field. Micdiddy, it is safe to say that Pacific McGeorge graduates leave practice-ready, so they can start their career sooner.
Take the first step toward accelerating your career goals and submit your application today.
Sincerely,
Scam Artist
Assistant Dean of Admissions and Diversity Initiatives
University of the Pacific
McGeorge School of Law"
I feel like a got two good jabs in with my response:
"Hello Mrs. Artist,
I just checked my junk folder and realized you have been trying to reach me for some time. I do not check it often, but I felt it would be rude to let so many emails go unanswered. To be honest, I had not thought of McGeorge up to this point of my admissions cycle. Though I went to Davis for undergrad, I did not grow up near Sacramento, so I was unfamiliar with the McGeorge name until I did some more researching.
Since I would love to work in the greater Sac area, can you tell me more about the career placement opportunities at McGeorge? I know law school may place a huge financial burden on myself and my family, so I am trying to be careful to choose a school that can guarantee me a job at graduation.
Please email me back at your earliest convenience,
Micdiddy"
Response is not too lulzy....yet:
"Good afternoon.
Thank you for your email. I understand your concern regarding employment and agree that it is an important part of your law school decision. Unfortunately, no law school can guarantee you a job at graduation but each law school will assist you in varying degrees in preparation for and in your search for employment in the legal field.
As you may know, we have been producing practicing attorneys in and around Sacramento for almost 90 years, as well as throughout California, the United States and the world. For information about our Career Development Office and the services they provide, please go to our website at http://www.mcgeorge.edu/Students/CDO.htm.
Let me know if you have any other questions.
Regards,
Con Star
Sr. Admissions Counselor"
I'm thinking at this point I should tell then my NU offer and ask for honest advice if I should take that or consider McGeorge...something along those lines.

Exactly. Think of the millions of dollars they've sucked out of now-unemployed students. This is justice in its purest form (kinda).Micdiddy wrote:Wow, that's pretty good pbgrad. Oh of course. I mean what if they see that we're just making fun of them and take it personally or feel it crosses "a line." An then email NU and UChi saying they feel we've acted unethically...Regulus wrote:lol... I thought about the same thing. And lol are you pretending you think they're Stanford? That's amazing, I hope they don't set you straight.Regulus wrote:I am still in the process of having lulzy conversations with them... but I am mostly waiting for a response from Samford. Here is what I sent them:
Regulus wrote:Dear Samford University School of Law Admissions Committee:
I received an email from you a couple of months ago, and was just wondering if you are still accepting applications. I was debating whether I want to give up my full-time job in order to attend law school, but finally arrived at the conclusion that I want to begin my legal education this fall.
Based on the information in the email you sent me, I noticed that Samford University School of Law places over 93% of its students into jobs within nine months of graduation; to be honest, employment outcomes were one of my biggest fears of giving up my job because of all the news the media runs about the legal market. However, with an employment rate this high in addition to the fact that Samford University has consistently been ranked in the top 3 on the U.S. News & World Report Law School Rankings, I am confident that I could reach my career goals if admitted to your program.
One thing that I am still worried about is, assuming that you are still accepting applications, whether someone with my numbers would be eligible for financial aid. I took the LSAT last June and scored a 166, and my GPA as calculated by LSAC is a 3.92. Would someone like myself have a chance at securing any sort of scholarship if admitted?
Thank you in advance for your time.

Consider this:Micdiddy wrote:Also, what if they read this thread? Potential repercussions? They have my name, address and now they know what school I'm going to...
First, admissions would have to care enough to visit TLS' website; then, admission would have to care enough to visit this section of the TLS' website; then, admission would have to care enough to read this thread; then, admission would have to care enough to read past page 1 of this thread; then, admission would have to care enough about one student trolling them enough to even begin the process of trying to get some sort of payback; finally, there's nothing overt that could lead someone to believe that admin at Phoenix School of law has the power to hurt you based off the stuff you've wrote on an online forum.
Even if someone here ratted you out to the admission at Phoenix Law, what could they possibly do to you.
