Go volunteer or get a job or something. It probably won't matter too much though. But at least do something so your resume doesn't read

Bachelor's Degree in whatever from wherever
3.93 GPA

OP, don't stress too much over softs though, you got all that matters.

People with "awesome" softs would desire to switch whatever they have with what you got: your numbers.

Besides, when does saving orphans ever translate to being a good atty ?

I'm with BerkeleyBear.

Very few people have that GPA/LSAT. OP is like a very hot girl at a bar with an ugly outfit and messy hair.

A person with great softs and meh numbers is like an ugly girl at a bar with an exquisite outfit and straight and combed hair.

The great LSAT is killer for law school admissions, but what about other avenues? If you want to work for a year or two before going to Law School you'll want some type of stuff to be able to talk about on your resume other than "so.. how bout those psychology courses you took".

Sure, we'd all trade whatever crappy special snow flakey softs we have for that LSAT but the OP isn't trading away his LSAT score for a better resume.. he's already got it in the books. So why not work on that resume now?

Well, I agree with you of course. As long as OP can keep the GPA up, might as well work or volunteer at the SPCA or something. Softs are the last thing to worry about OP. Don't you fret.

John: eh, well instead of being so general and saying that OP should work on that resume, i think OP would benefit if you could be more specific.

Also, OP, never do something just to fill in that resume. Do something you love. If it's working with homeless, do it. If it's filming pornographic films, do it. If it's saving lives as a lifeguard, do it.

I don't know anything about the OP or what they are interested in. But there's plenty of fluff stuff that won't take up too much time that you can put on a resume.

That's what I hate about softs: too much fluff and no substance.

Yeah, softs are BS. Standardized tests are just so much fairer of a way of comparing people (and I'm not particularly good at them either).

Why not get a job if you've never had one? Good life experience at the least.

They don't just hand those out like candy, you know. They're more likely to offer those to people who are legitimate contenders for all of YHS.

OP, start volunteering somewhere. Y and S (and B) care about softs much more than H, but H still cares. Get something on that résumé.

berkeley just cares about GPA and the hope that you're not anti-gay marriage, anti-obama, and anti-illegal immigrants getting financial aid to go to college

That's a pretty large shift of opinion for you from a couple of months ago... Not saying your wrong, and it's definitely what most people on here tend to think. But I'm curious how you arrived at such a conclusion? Is it because of stuff you've read on top-law-school's? Or an independent evaluation?

I'm actually going to challenge this, cause I know a couple of people at Berkeley... I think job experience, service, and other soft's definitely play from what I've heard. You probably still need a good LSAT and GPA, but soft's count for sure.

Making some assumptions here, but: OP, if you've really never had any job at all (and haven't even volunteered or joined a student organization?), do you really want your first full-time job in life to be biglaw? It'll be a rough transition from how you describe your life now (just sleeping and going to class) to regularly working 60-80 hour weeks, dealing with extreme workplace pressure, potential tense office environments, etc, particularly if you've never had the experience of having any boss or working in any office.

I really think it's in your best interest, law school admissions aside, to get some work experience, especially if it's the case that your interest in law school is, at this point, mostly just theoretical and not based in some law-related experience.

[edit] And contrary to what many in this thread and on TLS say, softs are important even if they fall short of being a combination Rhodes Scholar/Olympian. I think having no softs, and by extension no clear reason for wanting to go to law school, leads to some skepticism in admissions counselors. It certainly doesn't mean you won't get in, though.

I don't understand your strict adherence to numbers. There are plenty of examples of people under-performing their numbers because they had a weak application.

Exactly right. Even for the most predictable schools, Pearson correlation coefficients between numbers and admissions decisions are quite a bit less than 1.0. A poster ran the calculations based on all LSN data a while back, and only CLS and NYU were above 0.7.
