The USNWR Law School Rankings are absolutely useless and nobody cares about them. So lets put this year's list to better use. ITT: You predict USNWR's T25, I compile your entries, and whoever's closest when they're released wins their choice of a prize (read: stuff I find in my house). Serious business discussion about the rankings and this year's adjustment in methodology is taking place here. Per Robert Morse, entries are due before March 12th. If you don't want to play, I encourage you to troll instead (just no obvious troll entries, please) (lol, Sunny). If there's little/no interest, I'll kill it. NBD.
Note: You must have at least 100 posts to play (unless you have a tar that I like). Sorry, lurkers.
Here's how it works
- 1. Here are last year's rankings. Reference that as you order the schools in your entry.
2. Put your entry into the Submission Format (provided below).
3. Post it ITT before March 12th.
4. When the rankings are released, I'll grade everyone's submission according to The Rules for Grading (posted below).
5. I'll rank the submissions from most to least accurate.
6. The winner gets to pick one of The Prizes (posted below) and I'll mail it to him or her.
- The Submission Format
- Save me time by putting your entry into this format:
- _1. SCHOOL
_2. SCHOOL
_3. SCHOOL
_4. SCHOOL
_5. SCHOOL
_6. SCHOOL
_7. SCHOOL
_8. SCHOOL
_9. SCHOOL
10. SCHOOL
11. SCHOOL
12. SCHOOL
13. SCHOOL
14. SCHOOL
15. SCHOOL
16. SCHOOL
17. SCHOOL
18. SCHOOL
19. SCHOOL
20. SCHOOL
21. SCHOOL
22. SCHOOL
23. SCHOOL
24. SCHOOL
25. SCHOOL
- Here's the code. Copy and paste this into your submission post. Replace the stuff in all-caps with your name and predictions.
Code: Select all
_1. SCHOOL
_2. SCHOOL
_3. SCHOOL
_4. SCHOOL
_5. SCHOOL
_6. SCHOOL
_7. SCHOOL
_8. SCHOOL
_9. SCHOOL
10. SCHOOL
11. SCHOOL
12. SCHOOL
13. SCHOOL
14. SCHOOL
15. SCHOOL
16. SCHOOL
17. SCHOOL
18. SCHOOL
19. SCHOOL
20. SCHOOL
21. SCHOOL
22. SCHOOL
23. SCHOOL
24. SCHOOL
25. SCHOOL
- Regarding the format of ties
Note: There can't be a tie at #25 because it would mess up scoring. So, if you think there'll be a tie at #25, just pick your favorite. Props to Crowing for noticing the problem.
- There will probably be a few ties. How do you handle that when making your prediction? White out. For example, say you expect there to be a tie between Penn, UVA, and Berkeley for #7. Here's what you should do:
- Step 1:
- Starting at #7, type them in.
Tie Example wrote:_6. SCHOOL
_7. Penn
_8. UVA
_9. Berk
10. SCHOOL
11. SCHOOL
Step 2:
- White out the numbers below #7 up to the end of the tie.
Tie Example wrote:_6. SCHOOL
_7. Penn
_8. UVA
_9. Berk
10. SCHOOL
11. SCHOOL
- Here's what the code would look like:
Code: Select all
_6. SCHOOL
_7. Penn
_8. UVA
_9. Berk
10. SCHOOL
11. SCHOOL

The Rules for Grading
- Everyone starts off with 100 points. A penalty equal to the difference between a school's USNWR rank and its rank in your submission will be assessed for each incorrectly placed school. If such a penalty is assessed for an incorrectly placed T14 school, it will be doubled.
The Prizes
- There are three to choose from. They all suck, but whatever. Winner gets to pick.
Prize #1: Bag of Pistachios
Prize #2: Little Scallion Plant from my Garden
(Actual picture coming when I get home (unless I keep forgetting...))
Prize #3: Pepper Sauce made from stuff I grew
Submissions will be compiled in the post below the OP, and the winner and ranking of entries will be announced in the post below that. Only funny troll entries will be included. If you have any ideas to make this better/less stupid/more fun, let me know ITT.

Poll History
Ranking your Rankings
I did some amateur (read: probably wrong and misleading) statistical analysis on the first 28 (well, 27, because Sunny's just messed things up and LRGhost didn't make it in time) submissions. If you want to play around with the numbers, here is the spreadsheet I made. You should be able to download it and put it into Excel, but I'm not totally sure how GoogleDrive is different from GoogleDocs yet. Note that the ones that go all the way to #25 get a little janky after UMinn because not everyone included every school thereafter in the T25. Anyway, here are a few:
- Ranked according to the average rank assigned by TLSers (ROUNDED)
- _1. Yale
_2. Harvard
_3. Stanford
_4. Columbia
_5. Chicago
_6. NYU
_7. Penn
_8. Berkeley
_9. Virginia
10. Michigan
11. Duke
12. Northwestern
13. Cornell
14. Georgetown
15. UCLA
16. Texas
17. Vanderbilt
18. USC
19. UMinn
20. GWU
21. WUSTL
22. Notre Dame
23. Emory
24. U Washington
25. W&L
25. ASU
Ranked according to the average rank assigned by TLSers (NOT ROUNDED)
- _1. Yale
_2. Harvard
_3. Stanford
_4. Columbia
_5. Chicago
_6. NYU
_7. Penn
_8. Virginia
_9. Berkekey

18. USC
19. UMinn
20. GWU
21. WUSTL
22. Notre Dame
23. Emory

25. U Washington
And now here are some other things Excel told me. I think the standard deviation is really interesting. Y'all really aren't sure where to put UVA, are you?

Are we gonna be allowed to edit our submissions prior to the deadline? I feel like this is necessary because more info might come out between now and then that changes predictions.
I'm not trying hard I swear.
