How about a prize for whoever can get the least points without naming an unranked school? Ha!Dmini7 wrote:You could have multiple prizes. One for the individual who gets the most right(Or perfect score is someone secretly works for USNWR).
And one for the person who had the closest score to 0 assuming there were no perfect scores. If there were a perfect score then I guess they win both prizes...

Re: 2014 USNWR T25 Prediction Contest
I like the idea of having an alternative prize for whoever gets the most correct. I think the bottom line should be to keep the criteria simple though; I doubt North wants to deal with a bunch of complicated judging shit and the simpler we keep it the more transparent everything is and the easier it is for people to understand the scoring.TripTrip wrote:How about a prize for whoever can get the least points without naming an unranked school? Having a prize for whoever sucks the most could be cool too, but the criteria for that would have to be pretty carefully crafted. Not listing unranked is too easy; even listing T1 would be too easy because you could just list current #26 as #1 and go down from there till the end of T1. So I'm not sure about what a good way to construct that would be.

Re: 2014 USNWR T25 Prediction Contest
Well this got surprisingly complex pretty quickly. After we're done with this you guys want to rewrite the tax code?
I think going with:
Everyone starts off with 0 points. A penalty equal to the difference between a school's USNWR rank and its rank in your submission will be assessed for each incorrectly placed school. If such a penalty is assessed for an incorrectly placed T14 school, it will be doubled.
is probably the cleanest way to do it. If someone puts ASU at #20 and it ends up getting #40 in USNWR, then that's -20. T14 gets more weight because it's more important but less variable. Why did we get caught up assessing damages based on the arbitrary cutoff at T25 in the first place? Derp.
And yeah we can do a couple different categories if you guys tell me the rules for assessing it. I have plenty of crap I can mail to TLSers. Stachios/Scallions are for the main one, though -- the points. So, "most correct" and "consensus worst entry" also? These are trying times for TLS, what with all the scatbombs and Dingbat bailing on us. Lets keep the gamesmanship ITT rolling.

Re: 2014 USNWR T25 Prediction Contest
Wishful thinking on a tie at 14. I want there to be some sort of major shake-up and Gtown to be knocked out. Unfortunately when looking at the other schools, I feel a tie is all I can hope for as they all are definitely a step below the other top schools :/. I figured choosing ASU for 25 was too easy. TCR is American.Dmini7 wrote:

Lol, they aren't counting employment at Starbucks this year so American is finally, hopefully, going down to where it belongs.Dmini7 wrote:Wishful thinking on a tie at 14. Gutsier call is putting ASU at #22, given the amended rule. Dat -20 hurts when you're thirsting after my nuts.Crowing wrote:GULC to maintain #13; Br3v going with the gutsy callBr3v wrote:Br3v's (I think I took this too seriously) Entry

Dude ASU to anywhere in the T25 is like getting a PhD in Humanities; it's knowingly sacrificing success for an ideal, following a well-established shtick with full knowledge that you ain't gettin' any nuts.
GULC to 13 is like picking the #15 seed in the NCAA tourney. It's unconventional but could pay off big. Gotta show those nuts to get those nuts.

The LS I would really wish to relegate out of the list personally is Northwestern, but I really like them pistachios so I kept it sane.TripTrip wrote:Man, ajr is putting the smack down on both NYU and UVA.

Why the hate for NU? They've got some stellar employment numbers compared to their peers.ajr wrote:The LS I would really wish to relegate out of the list personally is Northwestern, but I really like them pistachios so I kept it sane.TripTrip wrote:Man, ajr is putting the smack down on both NYU and UVA.

Re: 2014 USNWR T25 Prediction Contest
I know their employment numbers are good and that is important. My hate is just a personal bias -- I don't like their overly "business" approach to academics overall. The AJD, removing LSAT requirements, etc. (This is not to suggest that the JD should not be a two-year degree). Too much emphasis on marketing makes everything other than their MBA in Marketing suck IMO.TripTrip wrote:Why the hate for NU?
