Please answer! Phx school of law to ASU/ UofA law?
So I've read most of everyone else's similar scenario posts, but none answer my question specially. My numbers aren't great and I really need helps deciding my options.
I figure I have 3 options:
1. Go to phx school of law (its ABA accredited now so credits will transfer) say I work my ass off and hypothetically do everything possible to get top 5% like my life is riding on it. And transfer to ASU/UofA law.
2. Take a year off to maybe improve my LSAT (but there is no guarantee I can get a super great score) and thus a year is wasted when i could have been somewhere.
3. Attend phx, do the best I can there and graduate from there at the top of my class. (I have the motivation to do so, this wont be an issue-- though I know it's not guaranteed/ easy)
Also my parents are lawyers in phx so I'm not worried about not knowing people to get internships/ jobs. I figured networking is more powerful than where you get your degree from anyways. Anyways let me know! Thanks!

Yes because LSAT is more unpredictable, GPA is more workable. You can go in to office hours, get a tutor, etc. The LSAT very easily could increase then plummet on test day or not even increase at all. I find grades hard, however more workable. If that makes sense, however im really just looking for input/ advice. If people think otherwise I'd like to hear.dirtrida2 wrote:So you have the motivation/determination to be at the top of your class - well so does everyone else!Weshallsee wrote:So I've read most of everyone else's similar scenario posts, but none answer my question specially. Can you get a guaranteed job on graduation? If so go to phx. If not, retake.
This is backwards.Yes because LSAT is more unpredictable, GPA is more workable.

What is your current LSAT score/GPA combination. I assume you have a very high gpa since you are confident you could recreate some form of success? Also, Law school is a whole different game. Unless you have done hard sciences that actually require a curve, you will realize it is different. Secondly, you have never taken a law exam(although everyone else would be in the same boat). You really can't predict how well you will do until you finally take it. The right move is to take the LSAT again if you want ASU/UofA. If you just want your degree and want to work with your parents. Just go to Phoenix. Again, this advice is not the right move. The right move is a retake.Weshallsee wrote:Yes because LSAT is more unpredictable, GPA is more workable. OP, LSAT is easy to improve on. Far, far more predictable than law school.
You know law schools grade on a reverse curve, right? As in, there is a limit to how many As can be given out?

Option 2. The fact that you're open to it means you know it's the best choice.

Do not under any circumstance go to "phoenix school of law."Weshallsee wrote:So I've read most of everyone else's similar scenario posts, but none answer my question specially. My numbers aren't great and I really need helps deciding my options.

Anyone can improve on that test. It is a completely learnable thing. You're only being lazy and irresponsible if you decide to not retake. Especially if you scored low.

its easier and cheaper to retake the LSAT than to go to Phx for a year...Plus are you willing to drop if you cant transfer?? if not, dont go. if so, refer to point one ( unless money doesnt matter)

Even if money doesn't matter. Do not go to phoenix. Do not go if they pay you. It will be a non-starter for your career. You do want a career, don't you?

Re: Please answer! Phx school of law to ASU/ UofA law?
OP must have a sky high GPA if he knows that he will finish at the top of his law school class. That must mean his LSAT is abysmal if his best option is Phoenix and he can't get into either of the other two Arizona schools. Or he's just flamin'
Probably the latter.
OP since you have such a high gpa you shouldn't need to get a super high LSAT score to get into the two reputable Arizona schools. I would think mid-150s should do it. Even if you did score in the 130s the jump to the 150s shouldn't be hard.
Retake!

You don't need to worry about taking a year off for no reason. Phoenix Law takes June scores for admittance for the Fall, and if you are close and want one more retest, they even take December tests for their Spring start if you still can't make it into the ASU or UofA. If you get your score, then you can wait until the next year, knowing you'll get into the school you would most like to attend.
Oh, and if Phoenix ends up still being your choice, a jump in score may get you more scholarship money--including from as late as June for August and December for January start.

Also don't assume you'll place well at Phoenix. Not everyone can be in the top 10 percent.

There are only two acceptable options here; either retake the LSAT, and go to ASU or UofA with free ride, or do not go to law school.

Why is it a year wasted to work hard to give yourself a better chance in law school admissions while gaining a valuable year of work experience? Law School is an expensive gamble. No need to just throw yourself right into the first school that will take you.Weshallsee wrote:So I've read most of everyone else's similar scenario posts, but none answer my question specially. I give your plan #1 my stamp of disapproval. Phoenix is garbage.
I endorse #2.

PSOL is crazy expensive.
Communicate now with those who not only know what a legal education is, but can offer you worthy advice and commentary as you complete the three most educational, yet challenging years of your law related post graduate life.

I don't think it's a flame. I know a ton of people at my UG who are pre-law that won't even consider taking a year off because they don't want the stigma of having to tell people upon graduation that they don't have a super-cool engineering job and will be moving back in with their parents. I guess lay prestige among peers that don't know anything about the law ("OMG you got into T4 Law? CONGRATZ!!") is more important than making the right investment.

Yeah, people make phenomenally stupid law school decisions. I know a lot of people that went to T3/4 schools because the LSAT was too hard for them or they didn't want to wait a year. It hasn't worked out for any of them.john7234797 wrote:I don't think it's a flame. But seriously, option #2 is your best bet. By far. Please don't go to PSOL, and don't go into any school expecting to transfer.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
Now there's a charge.
