Advice about acceptances

I was accepted to Florida Coastal, Ave Maria, and Nova's aample program.

Stetson denied me but after I met with the Associate Director of Admissions, he explained that I should take a prep course and take the June LSAT. He explained if I received a higher score I will most likely get accepted. He said he can't tell me it's a guarantee. I received a 145. He said I need a 153. He recommended signing up for Blackstone's prep course -- which I did.

But now I am in a dilemma. I planned to go to Stetson or Nova, but now they both have stipulations. I'm not worried about passing Nova's aample courses. That's never been a weakness for me. I am just a slow reader. However, the cost of living is a lot higher in ft lauderdale than st Petersburg (where Stetson is). Stetson also has a better reputation and it is a lot closer to my family.

I can only choose one due to my time restraints and my finances. Nova's class cost $3500 and Stetsons recommendation will cost me about $1300. I'm not worried about the money, but realistically I don't feel I should do both. Also, I am not going to have time to work full time, study for the LSAT, and take two classes at nova.

Does anyone have any advice for me?

Thank you.

My advice is retake, dont to go any of those schools you were accepted at nor Stetson. If you want to stay in Florida you should at least be going to UF or FSU. Anything else would be uncivilized.

Everyone here will tell you to retake and take the cycle off, and that these are terrible checks. With that said, if you REALLY REALLY have your heart set on going to these schools, I would do the one tht costs you the least... I can't post right now, but the employment prospects are really really poor. Do not do the aample program though, that's throwing 3500 down the drain

Self study and retake. If anything, just study LG and get -0/-1 on them. It would suck to take a year off but if you can get to UF/FSU, you'll be giving yourself a fighting chance for a decent job. People from Nova and Ave Maria are struggling to find hourly legal jobs that pay more than $10.00/hr.

UF and FSU are fairly cheap if you live in state. Stetson and the others are twice as expensive with a fraction of the opportunities. We can't tell you how to run your life, but going to any of the schools you mentioned is a horrible, life-ruining decision. If you can't get into better law schools than that, don't go to law school. Get a $10/hr job at Home Depot and save yourself $200K.

I definitely wouldn't need to get a job paying 10 an hour. I make 20 an hour at my job now.

Thanks though for the advice.

All those schools you got into are disreputable shitholes and it would be the height of idiocy to go to those schools in this economy.

I go to Nova's undergrad and I try not to even make eye contact with that law school building. I basically tell myself that this would be the LAST place that I want to go. And this motivates me to study harder for my LSATS. T-1 Here I Come!

I'm from Florida too and was considering attending all of these schools three years ago. Then I found this site.

I know it sounds harsh, but it would be a huge, irreversible, life-altering mistake to attend any of these schools. Do what I did and listen to the people on these forums. Wait a year. Take the LSAT in June, then. October, and then December if you have to. As many times as you need to to break 170. It's totally doable if you put in the work. Go to this thread and get started. I went from a 152, to a 168, to a 173. If I can do it, you can. Put in the work and go to UF, FSU, or Stetson for free or close to free, or a T14 with a little $. When you want to buy a house five or six years from now, you'll be happy you did -- $250,000 is a lot of debt for a JD that, more likely than not, won't get you a job as a lawyer.

It seems like you're concerned about money. That's good, but your concerned about the wrong money. Think about the $250,000 that the degree will cost.

Raise your standards. It's your future. Retake for a 170, dude, or don't go.

Make sure not to tell anyone at Nova you want to go to law school then, or else they'll all try to persuade you that rankings don't matter and Nova is actually a good school. I know from experience how difficult it is to figure out a polite way to say "I'd rather walk a mile on hot coals than go there unless THEY paid ME 100k per year." In the end I always just went with, "I'm looking forward to going out of state."

And yeah, back when I was on campus I felt jinxed by even going into the law building.

FWIW, it's really not hard to say "I want to see where else I can go." I understand you pretty much did that in the end but this predominant attitude that you have to think of a nice way around saying that you don't like someone's school is just incredibly weird.

This.

Don't go to any of those schools. I work at a law office in Miami. IF you get a job (and you have less than a 50-50 shot) most firms only pay about 32k/year. You can make the same as a manager at Ruby Tuesday's, without the debt
