I'm not sure whether I should be more impressed by the magnitude of these year on year declines, or the fact that the number of applicants is still way, way too high.

Should be fun waiting for 1L class sizes to roll out this fall.

Re: #4 ("URM's with lower numbers"):Robespierre wrote:^ There are several ways to deal with the decline in applicants.
1. Let the school's standards drop.
2. Decrease class size.
3. Poach qualified students from other schools by spreading around lots of scholarship money.
4. Admit fewer students who will hurt your medians:URMs with lower numbers, in-staters with lower numbers (state schools only, obviously) and people with low numbers but outstanding soft factors.
5. Accept people with low numbers who don't need to be reflected in reports to the ABA and USNews, such as transfers.
6. Sell yourself harder to accepted students with good numbers, in order to increase yield (another form of poaching from other schools).
This cycle, pretty much every school, except maybe HYS, will have to use at least one of these tactics.
Be careful! Declining admission to ANYONE with lower numbers - regardless of race - would assist the schools in dealing with the applicant decline, no? URM's aren't the only outliers who gain admission to law schools. The ultimate "URM's" are legacies and sons/daughters of the rich, many of whom tend to be lazy underachievers.

Re: LSAC: Applicants: -17.9%; lowest # of LSAT takers since '01!
...meaning more than four out of five applicants is admitted to at least one ABA approved law school. Freaking insane when you consider that potentially as few as one out of every four of those admits will fail to get into at least one school they would be at least content to attend.bcandybc wrote:I think it was because of the LSAC website going down right before 3/1 and schools extended their deadlines a week. It should fall back to 54,000 - last week's "surge" was a fluke.True....it just went from 54,000 to 55,500
shouldn't have used that term..
Anyways... maybe all those desperate school emails extending deadlines and offering fee waivers are working?
I would actually be surprised if it reaches 54k applicants by the end of the cycle however. 51-52k seems more likely.

Re: LSAC: Applicants: -17.0%; lowest # of LSAT takers since '01!
it appears that the law schools may have asked LSAC to stop reporting these #s each week - hasn't been updated in 2 weekly cycles. How many schools are still accepting applications anyways? Can't be many...

Sudden rush in apps = people typically put shit off until the last minute / fee-waiver frenzy

Miami accepts apps until June or something, I think. It's a ridiculously late deadline.RetakeFrenzy wrote:So some decent ones like Miami are still open.... hmmjustonemoregame wrote:I had a handful of e-mails in the past couple of weeks - Miami, NESL, PSU, Rutgers of courseRetakeFrenzy wrote:how many schools are still accepting applications?

Some schools (like Emory) have their deadline pass. But are quietly still keeping the app open.
