Slavery isn't joked about a huge amount because there are very few funny jokes you can make about something that hasn't existed for over a century. Kinda why people don't joke about their horse and buggy. Jokes are typically about things people can relate to. You'll notice that black comedians joke constantly about racism and race sensitive issues. See my many posts about context.

Dave Chappelle joked about slavery and it was hilarious IIRC. I know you said many. The fact that jokes about slavery are widely off limits, if they are, doesn't necessarily mean they are morally repugnant; it could just be that we have gotten too PC because some people get too easily butthurt.

I wholeheartedly agree. This is exactly the point I was trying to make. And thanks for being one of the only people to defend me. I'm not sure how my caring about women's rights came across as self righteous. It's alarming to me that people call me "fucking insufferable" for voicing the fact that I thought a particular meme was in poor taste.
It seems like you're being deliberately disingenuous both here and elsewhere ITT. This, particularly, was self-righteous: "Why is it that the majority are male? Also, in what world is this funny rather than offensive?"

Later on, you also imply that those who agree with you on finding that meme offensive are for women's rights, whereas those who find it funny are against women's rights. That's bullshit, and it's an explicit tribal group kind of dynamic that I find offensive--ironic, I know.

Also, maybe you should try reading what people are saying charitably, instead of going "OMG you disagree with me but I'm for women's rights so you must not be and you must like domestic abuse!11!1!".

You have a weird sense of what topics are off limits. Chris Rock and Dave Chappelle make slavery jokes all the time. Child abuse is joked about all the time - Catholic priest jokes, Michael Jackson jokes, all the Richard Pryor material about getting beaten as a kid. There's no topic that should be off limits for a joke

When did I say that people who didn't agree with me were against women's rights? I said nothing of the sort. I said feel free to disagree with me actually. I get that other people don't find it offensive, and that's fine. And when did I say that anyone was for domestic violence? I'm not sure where you're getting this, but at this point, I'd rather not argue anymore.

it's kind of hard to point to examples when you've already gone back and edited most of your posts.

You've been implying that the entire time: "k guess no one wants to have a serious conversation on here and who would care about women's rights/domestic abuse so nbd."

Also, in a similar way to how others can't see why you find that meme offensive and you can't see why others don't find that meme offensive, I can't see how you can't see that you've been implying that those who disagree with you ITT are against women's rights and you can't see where I'm getting that from. I can think of several oppressive political opinions. And, I second Django. When 2 ½ hours of slave revenge jokes gets nominated for 5 Oscars, it is officially no longer off limits.

I'm done with this conversation. It's obviously not going anywhere. I understand why people do not find the meme offensive. I did not mean to imply that people who do not find it offensive are against women's rights or for domestic abuse, so sorry if I came across that way. You've all shared your opinions, so I think we should just drop it.

Fair enough. Just as a helpful warning even though you presumably don't care, you should really be more careful re: outing yourself like that.

I wanted other people to recognize the fact that jokes about domestic violence are offensive, particularly when posted by a test prep company.

I think I can mediate from the center. After all, I am half women, on my mothers side.

A few novel things occurred today:

An Berkeley Undergrad is offended by the white, patriarchal machine
Anonymous internet posters are crass to a woman.
A complaint about offensive memes about violence towards women is plastered with offensive memes about violence/
Random, low post count posters defend her.
No ones mind is changed.
