I would NOT worry about this, just be sure to be forthcoming about it on any applications that require disclosure. I know quite a few people at T10 schools with DUIs and other random arrests. It didn't seem to hurt any of them. I had multiple disclosures, worse than that, and all my acceptances were exactly what my numbers predicted.

Right now, my top target is Harvard. I'm told I have a decent shot at admission with my numbers? Are they any more/less lenient about these sorts of things?
Don't worry about this. It's really not going to hurt you. Just disclose everything, and you'll be fine.

Seriously, it sounds like he was trying to help his friend out. It was still a pretty stupid thing to do, but it wasn't like he was making money off of it or anything. I just don't get why the roommate felt compelled to report it.
