Tailor your personal statement to NYU.

Get an awesome LSAT score. (Take the time to learn the test the first time. Retaking sucks.)

Since you're EDing, don't do a Why NYU essay.

visit and write all that in your ps, it may help, but most likely all that is going to matter is your lsat. If your still a junior you can prob pull up your gpa a couple points, which is all you would need to get to median then study for the lsat like its your job. If you have to, take a year off, live with your parents, work a part time job, and get you lsat up.

Given NYU's status as a law school, it's going to be difficult to distinguish your interest in the school among that of everyone else because it is such a sought after school to be accepted to. However, I believe the application pool you choose, as well as your personal statement, would be ways to show you are interested in the school.

For your personal statement when you apply, do research on the university, and use the closing paragraph of your PS to explain, based on your research, why your life experience makes an ideal candidate for NYU's incoming class.

I suppose you could try to do a summer internship in the international sphere to show your interest in the general subject are; this you could tie into your personal statement. Also, I have had friends who try to hustle admissions people for certain schools at law school fairs and the like, but I doubt this has any impact at all at such a competitive school. However, I think applying early/tailoring your PS is basically the main/only way to really show direct interest in a school.

Best advice, however, find the LSAT program that best fits your needs, put in at least 200-300 hours of preparation and get a very high LSAT (172+?). A high LSAT will definitely more than anything show that you are interested in the school.

Be aware that whatever you think international law is probably doesn't exist. "International law" is just law school advertising. A large proportion of 0Ls want to "do international law." Find out what graduates actually end up doing, and see if you find the most common outcomes tolerable. Also, specialty/program rankings for law schools are meaningless.

NYU doesn't really care whether you view them as something greater than their ranking, whatever that means. As much as any other top school, your numbers are virtually all that they will care about. Keep working on your GPA, and get a 172 or better on the LSAT. Applying ED is the only possibly meaningful way to show them your level of interest (though this will be neither necessary nor advisable if your LSAT is high enough).

Visit if you can, but it won't make any difference for admission. Don't send emails. I think applicants' best efforts at tailored personal statements are most often weaker than their best efforts at non-tailored statements. Also, adcomms will generally assume that you tailored your PS to every other school as well. Accordingly, they will give essentially no weight to your customization efforts. You will very likely be better off just producing your best PS without wasting precious space for pablum about how excited you are to join this clinic or work with that professor, and so on.
