Lol. We're both wrong. It's 36, 11 months, and a number of days between 27 and 30.

ETA: sorry about that. I knew it was one year above the age I'll be at graduation.... and I keep thinking I'm younger than I am, LOL.

ETAx2: Which means, OP, that you could have multiple chances post graduation... not just one. (if you are still even reading this)

I only knew because I briefly looked into getting a cyber forensics job with the Secret Service, but I'll be 43 when I retire from the military, so I wasn't even close.

So let me see if I understand this, you can be elected to congress, appointed to the Supreme Court Justice, win the electoral vote to be President, and be promoted to Admiral or General but you can't start a career investigating crimes for the feds if you're 40?

Do you have the same problem I do? That you keep thinking you are, like, 27 or so? I can't get over the fact that I'll be closer to 40 than 30 at graduation....

Well, I'm 42, so most of the shock has already passed. I'm sure 50 will sneak up on me, though.

OP - if you're "veteran's preference"-eligible, the "must be appointed before turning 37" cutoff *is* waiverable by some of the federal agencies. It's not an automatic waiver, but it is possible. You can look up the "Isabella decision" and the resulting September 2009 memo from the Office of Personnel Management for more.
