Is this "late" as far as application cycle?

Postby phelps84 » Wed Nov 21, 2012 12:14 pm

I had planned to apply by end of October (which I know would've been considered "early"), as I'm holding onto a glimmer of hope for HYS and otherwise am trying for CCN. My question for you at TLS is have I truly hurt my chances by waiting until now to apply? I'm a moderate splitter (178/3.67), so I probably should be taking all the help and am an idiot for not submitting last month... I just want to know how dumb I am. Thanks!

It's not that bad but you need to get them submitted soon. At this point acceptances will start to happen and you will be hurt if you wait much longer.

You're fine with those numbers, especially with the further large decrease in applications this year, but it would still be a good idea to wrap things up pretty quickly.

Submission date doesn't matter for YLS, but your GPA almost certainly rules you out there anyway. SLS is also very unlikely with a 3.7. You have a good chance at HLS, on the other hand. Harvard isn't going to be able to turn down many people with numbers similar to yours and also maintain their 173 median (or avoid a further hit to their 75th). And you're essentially an auto-admit at CLS and NYU, regardless of when you submit, with Chicago being less predictable due to their smaller class size. Preserving your strong shot at HLS is the main primary reason you should finish things up soon.
