diversity statement utility

Post by jess1921 » Tue Oct 23, 2012 1:05 am

should I write one if my personal statement is already about my cultural background? I don't think I need to write one but it doesn't feel right leaving blank a bunch more words that could potentially convice adcomms im the man.

feedback appreciated

I had the same question as you and spent some time researching it on this forum. It seems to be the consensus that having a diversity statement in addition to your PS is best; however, not if you are simply going to rehash the same thing.

Is there another facet from which you can address your diversity from? I'm assuming you are a URM.

More information that's presented in a well-written and interesting manner improves your application. So if you can write a PS and a DS that are both polished and interesting (and non-repetitive, but tangentially related), it will improve your application.
