I think that's tcr, but maybe it's sarcasm ?

also, it's 3 years with jd/msw, so would you incur extra cost of tuition ?

Para, you're right, but I've heard the rate of admission is actually quite high. Somewhere around 100%.

Lawyers are assholes. Sorry.

For an actual answer to your question, I was a social worker and I'm a 1L now and honestly can't see the combined degree (especially from somewhere as expensive as Columbia) being worth it.

Really not intending to be a jerk, but if you don't like it here, why stick around?

Bullshit, TLS is great. Not every topic can be treated with gravitas. The lulz breaks the monotony.

Honestly, I was ready to lock/move it to the lounge before I realized you meant something completely different.

OP, don't take it personally. Your title is coincidentally the name of a prominent lounge poster on TLS so I apologize if your thread did not go as planned.

However, I do ask that regular posters keep the jokes to a minimum so OP can get some actual answers to his/her problem.

Some joint degrees make sense, a prominent one that comes to mind is Stanford's PhD/JD where both are fully funded. I'm sure there are similar joint-PhD programs that have the same deal going on, but that's the one I/everyone is aware of. Of course, the big problem with that is that you're in school for 7+ years...

A joint degree has to make sense. It seems like a lot of people (read: undergrads almost exclusively) see a JD as an opportunity to hide out in academia for three years, and hey, if you're already in academia, why not tack on an extra year and get even more degrees. This mentality is abundantly stupid (fun fact, it was also stupid in undergrad) unless you have 250k sitting around somewhere, and then it's only mostly stupid.

In a better economy where students from T14 schools had their pick of firms, a JD/MBA from somewhere like Penn could make sense. Unfortunately, the mythical entry level VC jobs that acted as a wormhole to becoming a hedge fund manager at age 30 are pretty much gone. If you want to do banking, go for an MBA. If you want to do law, go for a JD.

tl;dr, An MSW will not help anywhere close to enough to justify the joint degree.
