Assuming, like you said, that you are writing this to simply state that standardized test scores have not be very predictive of your success, then I think it could help. If it sounds too much like you're trying to convince them, they'll probably just get annoyed. Given your circumstances and your seeming ability to discuss them objectively, I would recommend writing one, especially if you want to get into a very highly ranked school.djwjddl wrote:I'm thinking about writing an addendum for the law schools i'm applying to regarding how my LSAT doesn't reflect my true academic abilities. I took the SSATs and got about an 80% (well below the admitted applicants' avg.), but ended up getting into one of the top 3 boarding schools in America. Once there i did very well and finished in the top 10% of my graduating class.
I took the SATs and got a 2050 and ended up at an Ivy League (again, well below admitted applicant's avg.). I graduated with a 3.85 (cum laude) and 169 LSAT.
The point of writing this addendum is not to convince the adcoms that i'm a "poor standardized test taker," but to simply state that standardized test scores have not been very predictive of how well I have been able to perform in these highly "competitive" academic institutions despite them. I'm very well aware that the extent to which this addendum will actually "boost"/help my application is highly subjective, and in reality, pretty unlikely. But, i thought it would still be an issue worth mentioning.
