What to include in LOR package to recommender?

Postby cahwc12 » Mon Sep 17, 2012 4:09 pm

things I can think of:

- Transcript
- Any relevant past work
- Resume/CV
- stamped, addressed envelope to LSAC
- list of schools I'm applying to
- personalized letter indicating my future plans, etc??
- LSAC LOR form
- $$$$ ?

Am I missing anything or including too much?

My recommenders all told me what they wanted me to give them, and none of them wanted anywhere near that much stuff.

My recommenders generally told me what they needed after I asked them to write me a LOR, and none of them asked for this much stuff. FWIW, they can fax it straight to LSAC, so the stamped envelope and list of schools is unnecessary. Not even sure what the money would be for, but that's probably not a good decision.

the money was a joke, but I did LORs in 2007 and it had to be mailed then... I guess it's different now.

So I just need to get them an LSAC LOR form then?

I gave mine all that stuff and they seemed to be glad for it; they said the more info the better. I'm not really sure how it could hurt, it's not like they have to look at it if they don't want to...

Well apparently you can just submit the letters electronically now, so I don't need an envelope. Two of three professors did request a resume, and I'm also meeting with two professors in person, so I'll likely forego the written letter in lieu of actual face-time. I did an undergraduate thesis that two of my recommenders were advisors on, so perhaps I'll dig that up and give it to them again (although I'm not sure they'd want to read it again!!).

Beyond the resume/LSAC form email though, it seems like the only thing they'd really want would be a list of schools, and it's totally dependent on what I get on my retake.
