Hey guys,

Didn't know where to put this one. I am currently enrolled in a class titled "Introduction to Live Entertainment." One of our assignments is to write a paper about a job in the field with research from an interview. I've decided to interview an entertainment attorney. My professor has given me info on a woman he has worked with when he was in the business, so hopefully she will grant me some of her valuable time for a brief interview. She is in LA and a graduate of UCLA Law.

The reason I am telling you this is if any of you guys are interested in entertainment law I will try to ask her any questions you may have. Hopefully questions you may have will both help you and make my paper better!

So if you have any questions, post them here.

Wow, that's great. I actually am slightly interested in entertainment law but I know very littel about the field. Is being an entertainment lawyer as glamarous as it is often depicted to be?

I do know that the first person my professor was going to refer me to retired in his 40's. That says a bit about the money involved!

What I'm most curious to know is how one breaks into that area of law. Also, what area of law did she focus on in law school? Does the fact that she went to school in LA have a lot to do with her success in entertainment law?

Please keep us posted!! :)

Will do. I am going to try to get her to talk a good amount about her background and how she got where she is, so hopefully that should help you out.

When I enroll in Law school next year that's what I plan to become. Ask her if her usual hours are about the same as people working at major music labels. I'm currently interning at a label in NY and it's like they are there all day and a good portion of the night. That's one reason why I'm convinced to become one because the people already work crazy hours and I'm sure they don't get paid like lawyers. Ask her besides the obvious entertainment law classes which other classes does she feel really helped her.

Gotcha. Already was gonna ask about hours, that is a good idea of what coursework was important.

Would you ask her how recruitment works for entertainment law? or are most people entering that realm on their own comingout of school?

Thanks.

I would like to know if Sport law similiar?

Is it better to represent companies or individuals?

Would a school like USC or UCLA better better for learning this law vs. lets say a NYU, Chicago, Michigan, etc?

If she is in private practice, why? If working for a company, why? VS. the other.

Thats all I can come up with right now.

I feel silly. I thought "sports law" referred to rules in sports, and I asked myself why I needed to go to law school in order to be a better official at the YMCA Friday Night League. I guess I better start withdrawing some app's and asking for refunds. Thanks guys!
