LoR Descriptions
It says Law Schools see your description. In the case of a targeted letter what description(s) are being used? Suppose...
LoR - Recommender 1
LoR - Recommender 2
Lor - Recommender 3
Recommender 3 is willing to write several targetted LoRs. Somehow naming it Lor - Recommender 3 - School X seems to almost defeat the point of a targeted letter. It's like mentioning what no one explicitly wants to say; a targeted recommendation sounds nice, but, most the time, doesn't really equate to much.

Re: LoR Descriptions
You don't think that if Recommender 1 mentions School X in the letter, the highly-educated legal minds at School X won't be able to infer that just maybe that letter was written specifically for them?
Just don't name them "Stupid bullshit letter written by that asshole Jim Smith for a school that sucks" and you're fine.

Re: LoR Descriptions
I wasn't clear.
Suppose you want to have several targeted letters from the same person.
School 1 would see:
Lor 1
Lor 2
Lor 3 (Which is a specific target for them)
School 2 would see:
Lor 1
Lor 2
Lor 4
That makes it obvious there was a 3, and the logical conclusion is, "There was another targeted letter, likely the same as the one I got, but with mention of the other school." To me, if I were reading such a recommendation, I would subsequently weigh it less heavily.
Does that make sense?

No. No one cares about this.

Re: LoR Descriptions
It could also indicate that you received four amazing letters of recommendation and chose to use the worst of them because you thought the third was just too flattering.
Also, there is NOTHING logical about that.
You're worrying about the wrong things. Worry about different things.

You're assuming that they would otherwise weight it more heavily. Which, in reality, they won't.GoingForGold wrote:To me, if I were reading such a recommendation, I would subsequently weigh it less heavily.

Re: LoR Descriptions
If it's really bothering you that much, why not:
LOR Prof. Smith
LOR Prof. Kim
LOR Prof. Schmo (Y)
where (Y) means Yale
or something like that?
That way, there's no numbering and all the schools see are the professor's names that they already knew.
