Duke Priority Track

Post by PS2012 » Mon Aug 06, 2012 12:43 pm

How do you get chosen to apply with Duke's priority track? When will those emails go out?

My understanding is that you find out early and it is not binding? http://law.duke.edu/prioritytrack/

You should be able to apply Priority Track very early, if not as soon as the reg. app. becomes available, and if it is the same as last year, it is non-binding, and you get a decision w/i 10 days. I assume stats are determinative re: getting chosen.

So they email you saying if you can apply priority track or do you just check a box in the app

I applied after I received an e-mail invitation -- pretty sure I checked a box in the app, too.

you have to be signed up for that service that allows schools to send you emails and see your scores or whatnot (I think its called CRS)

then duke will send you email saying you have been invited to duke priority track if your scores are high enough...you dont do anything on your part.

If you do not get an invite, you can email duke and try to solicit one, though i dont know anyone who has pulled this off, at best they received a fee waiver

If I'm an international applicant and don't have an undergraduate GPA, is it possible to receive the invitation for priority track? Will I be able to solicit one?

Can you be invited to Duke PT after the October LSAT? Or is it a one time deal in August?

Took first LSAT in October 2011. Received PT notification maybe a week after my scores came out 3 weeks later. Applied around Dec. 1st, got in 9 days later. So absolutely possible, and still an advantage in their admissions process even if you use it in December.

(3.6/173 for what it's worth)

Awesome. And congratulations. Duke is far and away my top choice for law school.

I think 173 was the cutoff last year for a PT invitation. Look for it to drop a point or two this year though.

I stand corrected. I remember seeing some 171-2s who didn't though, so it may not be a hard number?N

Potentially, I'm not sure. I know at least one of the two 171s had a below median Gpa. I'm not sure what formula they use.

Will they tell people before they release apps on August 25th?

Just got one with a 3.76, 167 non-URM. Not sure what to do, I never anticipated this. I'm retaking in October but I have been planning on applying to schools I'm fairly confident I will get in to as soon as applications open (to hedge against scoring a 167 or lower on the retake). I wasn't going to apply to Duke unless my score increased because I thought I had no shot. What should I do? Do priority track applicants typically get accepted? I couldn't really tell from a quick glance at LSN. Or are there a lot of deferrals to RD? Should I just wait and see if my score increases before applying?

Congrats, but this makes me wonder if their plan is just to try to gather a bunch of applications and waitlist them all. Because, at least based on last year's cycle, you don't have a great chance according to LSN: http://myLSN.info/dispresults.php?sk=4lsq6
Yeah, this is what I'm wondering about...

I'm confused, I have higher numbers but didn't get one yet. Why would that be?

I emailed them asking to be included in Priority Track this Monday (8/20), and heard back yesterday from that they're willing to include me when they send out the emails "in a few days" (and I did just get one this morning). So it seems like it's not a completely unsolicited program, so if you really want one, just ask.

Caveat: I'm >75% on both numbers, so don't want to completely lend credence to they're-just-doing-this-to-waitlist-people theory.

Are people still receiving emails? I haven't received one yet, but I'm at the end of the alphabet. Not sure if I should solicit.

What did you say in your email?

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
