CAS / Transcript Question

Post by analytic_philosopher » Sat Aug 04, 2012 10:30 pm

Hello, I have a question regarding my transcript. I've heard that if you have incomplete / withdrawn classes on your transcript, then LSAC might calculate your GPA differently than how you college calculated it. I'd like to know how I can submit my transcript to LSAC so that they can calculate my GPA for me. I went to the LSAC website and made an account. It says that I can submit my transcript to them at the following address:

Law School Admission Council
662 Penn Street
PO BOX 2000-M
Newtown PA 18940-0993

My main question: Do I need to pay the CAS fees beforehand in order to see my GPA? Or can I have my University submit my transcript to LSAC even before I pay the CAS fee?

Obviously, at this point you must be wondering why I'm trying to avoid paying the CAS fees if I intend to apply to law school. I actually don't have a problem with paying the CAS fees, but I'll be applying to law school next year, not this year. If I pay the CAS fee now, will it still be valid next year?

CAS is good for 5 years and I'm pretty sure you need to have paid it for them to do anything with your transcripts. Just bite the bullet and pay it. Your grades depends on your school and whether withdraws or incompletes are punitive on your transcript.

This is true. You can't view your transcript summary until you have purchased CAS. I called them about this when I sent mine in and couldn't view the report. As soon as I paid later in the day, I could see the summary within 20 minutes or so.

I have a question about this topic as well. I've just purchased the CAS and need to select my "institutions attended". Obviously I selected my school, but I did spend one semester at another university and took one course over the summer at a community college. do those need to be included in institutions attended? My final transcript from my school includes both of those schools on it.

Am I missing something here? Why don't you just use the LSAC GPA calculator?
