Question about Temple

Is Temple a good choice if you want Philly/NYC?

I'm probably not going to get T14 (Shot at NU and GULC), and if not want to go somewhere with a strong market and a school that places well into it. I know Penn is also in Philly, but I get the sense that a lot of the Penn students leave Philly, leaving Temple as a really good choice (and better than PSU, Drexel, Villanova).

Am I correct? Would it make sense to go with a reasonable scholarship, strong ties, and the acknowledgment that I will probably end up in Philly (NY only if I crush it)?

Temple places extremely well in Philly. Not so much in NYC.

If you want to work in Philly, Temple's a very strong school to attend. They have the best alumni network in the area.

I would say NY is probably out of the question (at least for your first job), even if you were to crush it. We have all of 2 new york big law firms in our OCI program and one of them is doing "resume collect" which means they are not even bothering to come to campus. If you are ranked #1 in your class, then perhaps one of the two firms will interview you. That being said there are a few public interest employers from NY that do OCI at Temple but from your post I'm assuming you were referring to NY big law.

From my research, it seems that Temple and 'Nova place comparably within Philly. PSU is meant more for central and west PA, and Drexel is too new to have a meaningful impact in the Philly legal arena. RU-C places some in Philly, but their bread and butter is South Jersey. By going to any of these schools, however, you should resign yourself to working in the area. NYC is the most accessible market out there, and you might be able to get in with a ton of hustling and great grades, but you really shouldn't hang your hat on it.
