Should I take a year off to improve GPA?

Postby ihill » Tue Jul 24, 2012 4:01 am

I apologize in advance if this topic has already been discussed (I tried searching for it and could not find it).

I am a rising Junior with about a 3.0 GPA and a goal LSAT of 170 and am shooting for T14 but would be happy going to T25. I was in engineering for a year and a half and struggled tremendously but am doing considerably better now that I switched majors and expect to graduate with about a 3.4 GPA. Only problem is that law schools only receive Junior grades and earlier if you apply early and half of your Senior grades if you apply later. Thus, the GPA law schools will see will be around 3.2. Is it worth it for me to take a year off after graduation and work in order to raise my GPA or will the 0.2 GPA boost not make a substantial difference?

Yes, work. Work experience only helps you anyway. A 0.2 definitely matters if you can realistically get it.

er. L'edol.

Edit - "L'edol" sounds like French for "the doll."

It wouldn't hurt you to give yourself a year. You can also beef up your resume a bit in that time if you are lagging in that respect as well.
