yes/no question regarding EA

Does applying EA have the same effect on merit scholarships as applying early decision (as in making it unlikely to receive any)?
If it matters, I'm asking this with regards to Cornell in particular.

absolutely not. The detriment is due to them knowing that they have you no matter what. With EA, this is not the case.
