Almost want to drop Penn from my #1 choice because I don't feel like explaining to all my friends in CA that Penn is NOT Penn State. Undergrad all over again

also, on the west coast, I had NO CLUE that people regard any of the Big10 schools as prestigious. The only thing I knew about Purdue is that Drew Brees played there, and they have a stupid ass train mascot. Northwestern was one of the shittiest AQ FBS schools, and is in like Montana or some shit

I would not recommend writing that in your "Why Northwestern" statement.

As a fellow West Coaster, re B1G I would say Michigan does have a favorable reputation out here. I think OSU is looked at as better than your average (non-UC) public, but it's definitely still a party school.

When I reflect back to the initial days of thinking about law schools, I had little idea what schools were in the top 10 (never heard of a top 14). Harvard, Yale were automatics. Stanford was no surprise, ditto the Ivy schools Cornel, Penn and Columbia (in no particular order). The one or two people I knew that ever had discussed NYU always did so in glowing terms - not a shocker to see them highly ranked. I had never heard of Chicago.

Conceptually, does this allow you to say that Columbia is named after a place rather than a person or people? American University's status as a namesake - fictitious, contrived or otherwise - is NOT analogous to the naming of Columbia University.

The fact is, Columbia University was - either directly or by extension - named after the Columbian period of exploration, which is defined by the existence and explorations of Christopher Columbus and those who either preceded or followed him.

On a side note, I always wondered why the UVA wasn't named Jefferson University.

I for one am hoping that my future law school carries enough lay prestige to get me laid, since my game or social skills will definitely not do it for me.

A friend got into Booth but was rejected from Columbia and Stern. She was so disappointed. I had to spend an hour convincing her that Chicago had an incredible business school. She had literally never googled the rankings. Not even sure how she formed a school list.
