I was diagnosed with Crohn's Disease like a year-ish ago - its a chronic GI disease, if you are unaware. I struggled for a good year before diagnosis, and still am struggling to a certain degree. I think this may be an okay topic for a DS, but to be honest, I'm not really sure. I honestly would have no idea what to write. Other than the above, I'm a regular white dude. No other diversity.

Can anyone venture a guess as to whether (a) its an okay topic, and if so, (b) what the eff do I say.

Not looking for anything wordy for B. Just a general idea since I honestly have no idea what, if anything, to write.

If you can't think of a way to spin it as bringing diversity to the incoming class, don't write the DS.

Can you claim to have learned what it's like to have a physical infirmity that limits your activities, and so have developed better empathy for the ill and disabled?

Well, yeah, of course I can claim that I've learned what it's like to have a physical infirmity (since I have one) and have a new found sense of empathy for those who are ill and disabled (since I shit like 8 times a day and wouldn't wish it on anyone). Is that type of reasoning sufficient for a decent DS, minus talking about my bowel habits? Perhaps more so if I play up the fact that I would like help those with similar illnesses in some way in my career? Or would that be better suited for a personal statement?
