I actually agree with some of this.
That sounds terrible. There's already plenty of serious discussion. TLS' biggest problem when I first started posting was that there was a lot of great info about LSAT prep and admissions stuff and even a good amount of 1l success strategiesbut the amount of advice dropped off dramatically when it came to actually getting a job. Now I feel like there's a much bigger base of rising 3ls and new graduates and the legal employment info is much more solid. On a few years we could potentially have a lot more actual lawyers posting here. I think that the sense of humor gets people to stick around. It gets boring answering the same questions all the time and giving the same advice to each new cycle. The occasional hilarious BearsGrl thread is the reason I'm still posting here after so many of the people who joined tls when I did(08) have moved on
That's the problem though. TLS is full of regulars. Businesses need to grow. I don't think that the site originators were wrong or are wrong, but I just think the commentary from the posters has lessened and the input is more snarky. That's fine ...for regulars. It's not going to attract a new group. Most current students don't have a lot of extra time to spend on a site like this and so th5-10 ey'll skim or ask a question and then they'll get 5-10 snarky responses back.
I think that when it comes to the job search, there is more serious discussion. The person that told me about this site, after I had found it, was an attorney. But she didn't comment on it. She gave me a few books, said to pause on law school and said here is one site that she knew of. That's why I didn't enter the law school bubble years back.
I think part of the negative, but reality, is that this site exists during a time of more emotional vetting. Meaning people are more likely to talk about their negative experience if they are aware of this site because if you're working in the legal world, you're probably not too aware about it. Maybe your experience is different. I'm not sure if your 1L year, you had people talking about TLS in convos. Maybe they did. Who knows.
