WNE OR UDC??? Please Help

Postby Jared » Fri Apr 27, 2012 1:57 pm

Hi guys,

First time poster.

So far my only options are Western New England and University District of Columbia. I didnt do too well on the LSAT and my GPA isnt very competitive but law school is something i've wanted to do for quit some time.

Price wise they're almost head to head as i received good scholarship from WNE.

My questions is, which one would you attend and why?

My aim is to stay on the east coast. I want to do very well and hopefully be competitive in the job market through doing well at law school and OCI. I may even try to transfer after first year to a better ranked school although if i stay at the above mentioned schools i wouldnt mind. But which one should i risk going to?

I've done a decent amount of research and both schoosl are surrounded by some very well ranked schools in the same state. Being at the top of my class would give me an edge....but i need to be on the top obviously.

Anyways, any help would be much appreciated. I'd love to get different views on which one you would attend if you were in my spot.

Cheers.

You need to retake or don't go. These schools do not leave you very good options.

Neither. You can't go into law school expecting to transfer and you certainly can't expect to be at the top of your class; there are to many variables. You have to think about what the job prospects are going to be like for you if you end up median or below. And from these schools that's a grim picture. Retake the LSAT, wait a year, and you can vastly improve your options

Thanks for the reply guys, i really appreciate it.

LSAT was 155 and Cumulative GPA is 2.5 (medical issues for first two years in undergrad. Last 2 years undergrad GPA is 3.35)

Im not expecting to transfer, though i will try it. If you absolutely had to choose one i honestly dont know which one i would choose.

Im not really planning on doing law to work in a law firm. Im more business minded and would love to have a law degree to go along with my future business ideas. So Big law isnt something im really looking for.

I also got into Toledo, but the curve there is extremely harsh.

Once again, thanks for your honest responses guys. It really does help me put things into perspective from an unbiased standpoint.

I don't mean to sound harsh, but it seems like you may not have thought through law school and how having a JD will fit into your life. It seems non-essential. So pouring money into a JD that will be no more than a sheet of paper to you doesn't seem to make sense. I would think hard on this one, wait a year and retake if you do indeed decide to go to law school.

^Thanks for the advice.

I did take the year off but it was to plan a business than to re-take the LSAT (i truly dont believe i can do better because i've scored 155 twice)

Taking it a 3rd time would be detrimental for my application, as such i chose not to go that route.

Im definetly not the typical law student looking to get into public law or big law. Even if i attempt to transfer, it will probably be to a university in the top 50-70. Im really not aiming for anything higher...it'd be foolish to do so.

I've had a family member and a friend who have tried transfers, 1 that failed and 1 that got admitted into UT Austin. So im well aware of the failure rates of transfers. Pursuing a legal education has been something i've wanted to do for a long time. So i definitely will be going this Fall.....i just dont know which (of the two extremely mediocre options) i should pick.

Any insight/personal experiences would prove valuable.

Once again guys, thank you for helping me out.
