I signed up for a class in the beginning of the semester and a week later went to my course enroll to drop it. Then, after the drop deadline, I find out it has not been dropped. I've never attended the class, never bought a book, and don't even know what the Professor looks like...because I thought the class had been dropped. My school is making me take a withdrawl, and it will show credit attempted on my transcript, meaning LSAC will count it as an F. This drops my GPA from a 3.91, to a 3.69.

My lsat is 179.

What just happened to my life?

Chill dude.

Use the rest of your courses to bring that GPA up to a 3.7-something, appeal the W to the extent that it can be appealed, if it doesn't work out write an addendum, apply early in the cycle, and at worst you are a 25th GPA 75th LSAT applicant to H; many with similar type numbers have already gotten in this cycle. SBY are probably out. But you would still have an average to good shot at CCN MVP.

With regards to my cycle, as other posters have stated, it is likely my mediocre resume and my lack of WE which impacted me negatively in admissions, along with the withdraw-fail. Probably a combination of these factors as I've said before, it is of course impossible to judge which had more weight. And it is true that I received several great offers anyhow, of course I am very happy about that, I am simply responding to OP's unique circumstance which I can specifically relate to. I said I underperformed my numbers, putting aside other extraneous factors, which I believe to be the case, and I think that information can help OP with regards to his expectations moving forward.

Yup. Also keep in mind I would kick a baby into a woodchipper for your stats.

I apologize for my lack of respect for undergrad that will become obvious soon.

Why not just take the class seriously now and get a B?

Are you sure your W will be punitive? I would try to convince your undergrad to make it a non-punitive withdrawal, they may make an exception for you. If it is non-punitive it will not be calculated into your lsac gpa.

+1.

Does one F really lower your GPA that much?

SYoshi11 wrote:I'm not sure I'll be able to get a B. I missed the first big test, which will be a 0. I'm pretty sure the test (haven't look at the syllabus) will be worth more than 15% of the grade -- meaning I'll have to be absolutely perfect to keep it at a B. Also, the W does not hurt my college GPA, only my LSAC GPA.

I talked to LSAC. They said if, on my transcript, the school lists it as 'credit attempted' then, even if the school considers it non punitive, they will give me a 4-credit F.

And, the F will drop my gpa from a 3.91 to a 3.69.

Ask the school to specifically not list "credits attempted" or to write LSAC w/that.

LSAC Website wrote:Grades Excluded From Conversion:

* Withdraw, Withdraw/Pass—only if the issuing school considers the grade nonpunitive.

This seems to say that if your school considers the W non-punitive it would be excluded from calculation...

Also, I didn't realize you were still enrolled in this class NOW. Get your butt to class! Go explain your situation and beg your professor to let you make up all the work you've missed. Are you nuts? Do what you gotta do to avoid failing this class you crazy kid!

Keep in mind that Tommy Callahan needed a D+ to graduate from college so you're in good company.

Talk to the professor. Negotiate a retroactive withdrawl, which is different from WF (just a simple W). This should be easy with your stats. Bring your transcript, LSAT score, and plead your case. Really though this should be a very easy negotiation because of your background.

If the alternatives aretaking a failing grade from lsac, versus taking a C- in the class, I'm not sure what to do. (because of the lsac vs. college gpa distinction). i'm hoping that the W can somehow be counted as non-punitive....

Getting it counted as non-punitive is of course the best outcome. Given the impact the F would have on your GPA I assume you are still only a junior, so you always have next year to get a 4.0 and bring the GPA back towards where it belongs.

Everyone is (understandably) being a d*ck, but I can feel for you. It has to suck for sure to work for that GPA only to have it drop. But I think if you write an addendum, you would get accepted to any school you were going to apply to anyways, which is to say you will get accepted to any school.

non-punative W sounds like the only option. therefore, you need to do one of two things; secs with the registrar, or secs with the dean of students.

What happened to make the withdrawal not take? In your first post it sounds like you actually did go to the registrar and it somehow didn't go through.

Also, I keep clicking this thread because I think it's going to be someone waxing about how much they'll miss the application process.

Ok, all jokes aside.
I missed a withdrawal date once and wrote a letter of appeal.
It worked. Do it.
