I'm currently held at a T30 school. I don't have an additional LoR to send, so I will send my diversity statement, which they didn't get from me the first time.
My first question is: this school only had room for a few hundred words on "why us?"? Would it be good to write another, slightly longer version of that? I think I could do a better job on this with a second attempt.
Second, any other general do's and don'ts for when a person is held?

You don't have to write an additional personal statement. Instead, you should write an LOCI that details some of these "why them" reasons. However, be mindful that it should only be a page long, so don't go into a lengthy overture. Also, this should be mailed as opposed to submitted online.
