How are splitters doing?

Postby CodyRuegger » Fri Feb 24, 2012 6:03 pm

I'm curious to know because I've had some surprising results.

My numbers are 3.35 gpa and a 176 LSAT. Pretty drastic split, I should admit.

My list so far:

Stanford - ?
Columbia - ED and Hold
Chicago - Waitlist
NYU - Admit (in december)
Michigan - Waitlist
Penn - Waitlist
UVa - Admit (in december)
Berkeley - Reject
Vanderbilt - Waitlist

Not all of this is surprising of course, but I'm a little put off by some schools which waitlisted me when I had figured I was in. If any other splitters could share their experiences, I'd be grateful.

Also, we are pretty much numbers twins but I have yet to hear back from a lot of places.

UMich: ?
Northwestern: Admit
UCLA: Waitlist
UChicago: Waitlist
NYU: ?
Harvard: ? (lulz, helping their acceptance rate)
Columbia: ?
UPenn: ?
Berkeley: Waitlist
UVA: ?

I have a lot of waitlists.

Meh, splitter cycles are generally pretty screwy.

Wouldnt they be doing better with a decrease in apps? 3.8s are a dime a dozen, 170+ isnt.

Weaker split here...all over the place so far...no clue what to make of it yet. I'll get back to you in 4-5 years.

I've thought this, as well, but I'd love to see some data; any idea on the median GPA for law school applicants?

Think there is a thread for this?

Very happy with how things have gone. WE probably helps quite a bit (since it lets me distance myself from my GPA).

Not well. Thus far, it does not seem like the decrease in apps has had a significant impact.

2.8/176 Splitter - my cycle has pretty much been normal, more or less. not out anywhere outrageous, not in anywhere outrageous. I think the only thing that genuinely surprised me was that I got a WL at UCLA -- I thought for sure I was an autoding with my GPA.

Cycle here: http://lawschoolnumbers.com/whimsical

ETA - oh, and I was somewhat surprised by the straight acceptance FT at GULC...thought I was gonna be either PT or a WL.

This looks like a disappointing cycle for splitters. I have a 173 and 3.5x and have only been accepted to UMich and Cornell in the T14. Rejected at Penn, Chicago. Waitlisted at Duke, Georgetown, Virginia and deferred at Columbia after an ED. Still waiting on NYU and will attend if accepted but chances are I will be in Ann Arbor this fall. Definitely was expecting better results with the drop in apps.

UVA - admit
Cornell - admit
UT - admit
Vandy - admit
Penn - waitlist
MIch - waitlist
Gtown - waitlist
UCLA - waitlist

I did better than I thought I would with a 172 and a 3.3

3.07/169, only got accepted to WUSTL and Brooklyn so far, Brooklyn with $$ and WUSTL still waiting on sholly info. No rejections yet, knock on wood. I'm still waiting on my three T14's to answer (Columbia/UVA/Cornell), among others that I'm no longer concerned with assuming WUSTL gives me some money. Pretty much assuming straight dings based on what everyone else is saying. Hopefully I turn out to be the outlier here :/

Now so sure this is true........3.95/165/162 in at UVA. And I wasn't the only one, a lot of really high GPA's and low 160's got in this cycle, RD too, so Im not so sure LSAT>GPA holds true

Yeah but that's true every year at UVA.

Doesn't seem like things are all that different. NYU and Northwestern were basically my two safest bets in the T-14, and the only other T-14 I managed to snag was Columbia. 3.49/178.

If apps really end up down another 15% this year the waitlist could be hot for splitters.

Mild splitter (stats in profile via LSN; I'm planning on unlinking my LSN profile when I'm actually in law school).

I think my cycle has pretty much followed the same trend as the last cycle (a slight lean towards the optimistic side). I did apply either day one or within a month of app releases which I think helped.

I'm out/WL/pending at T6, in at most of the mid-T14s, waitlist/reserve/hold at the lower-T14s, and so far sweeping schools outside T14.

Has there been any discussion on the site comparing how holds/waitlists will fare this year compared to prior years? I blanketed the bottom half of the T-14 with apps, and had the highest hopes for NW (where I was held, the rest are pending). I can only imagine I'm going to see similar results at the other schools and was wondering if there were any hard statistics or articles saying that schools are expecting more waitlist movement this year.

How are sub-3.0 splitters (165+ LSAT) doing?
