TLS survey

I am doing a paper for a class on kind of the "gotta-have-it-now" mentality that is so prevalent in our society nowadays. Given the experience I am currently having, I want to use status checkers as kind of the main manifestation of this entire attitude. I was wondering if I could survey the TLS community for some of their feelings on this topic (and maybe get your minds off of the waiting game for a few minutes).

1) How have status checkers affected your application cycle (your mental state or otherwise)?

2) Have they changed the way you approach waiting for news from when you were applying to undergraduate or even for a job?

3) Do you think they are a necessary evil or an unnecessary burden?

Any answers, no matter how short, are much appreciated.

They're awesome, I get more updates rather than just feeling helpless as a letter could come with a response anywhere from November to Late April

2) Have they changed the way you approach waiting for news from when you were applying to undergraduate or even for a job?
I really am not qualified to answer this question. I was pretty much a waste of life until after my freshman year of college so I just applied to joke local schools that I knew I'd get into / a couple that I didn't really have much of a chance... wasn't really "anxious." I'm now applying to "reaches" "targets" "safeties" / trying to get high scholarship $ so its a lot more "interesting"

3) Do you think they are a necessary evil or an unnecessary burden?

They're awesome

1) They are good for passing time at work. It's probably a little crazy how much time I waste checking them but not sure what I would be doing if I wasn't doing that. Something equally unproductive I'm sure.

2) I didn't care about UG as much, I just applied to local state U's so I think I just assumed I would get in.

3) necessary evil. It's nice to know right away, but the schools that update to decision rendered with no way to tell the decision then send you a letter are a little frustrating.

Status checkers and I have a love/hate relationship. It's complicated. They promise to change, but they never do... *sigh*
