The Law Offices of David Anziska, together with Strauss Law PLLC and six other law firms, have filed complaints against 12 more law schools. To date, 15 of the country’s 197 ABA-approved law schools are facing class action suits. Now, nearly 8% of its member schools have been formally accused of fraud by 73 former students.

JNSL, you're a cool bro, but LST hyperlinks never work on TLS.

It works if you refresh, for some reason. Also, every school on that list had this coming.

Are you getting:

You don't have permission to access [some file] on this server.
Additionally, a 403 Forbidden error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.
If so, this has been an issue since we upgraded to Wordpress 3. I'll look into it.

I'm glad that there are T2's on there in addition to the TTT's and TTTT's. I bet if a T1 got sued it would cause a huge ruckus.

If you cut and paste the link, it works apparently.

Or I could just, ya know, go to the site.

Interesting to note that 9 of the 15 schools are in California/NY.

What exactly are the schools getting sued about? If its for employment data, I thought most schools only report salary ranges for a fraction of their graduating class.

Edit:

Law.com published an article and updated it with some quotes; nothing really surprising from either side...

I'm interested to see what USF has to say about not reporting anything at all...

Why would anyone go to a school that doesn't even publicly report employment statistics? Also how are they misleading anyone with their non-existent reporting?

this is getting ridiculous; all the more reason to go to a tier 1 school.

still, the day shit flies is the day a t14 gets sued

Is UIUC going to be (or were they already) wrapped up in any of this? I am not familiar at all with the scandal there or if it is even relevant to what is going on with the aforementioned schools.

The findings included in LST's Transparency Index are on a survey we conducted last month looking at how law schools are currently disclosing info on the Class of 2010 employment. It is not the same data upon which the lawsuits are based. The complaints focus on what schools were advertising to people who applied between 2004-2008, give or take a few years (due to SOL differences in different state consumer protection laws). We included the results of the Index to show that most of these schools are still misleading people, with one notable exception (Southwestern).

But making sure that future consumers aren't misled by including better data on the Class of 2010 won't shield any school for past actions of fraud and misrepresentation.

Even more interesting is that half of the schools in Chicago are on that list.

Eh? These are 12 more schools in addition to the complaints that have already been filed:

(Update: the website now shows these new complaints, with the exception of USF as of this post)

UIUC was about USNews stuff. Rankings and whatnot.

It's why you'll see Illinois in the high-20s / low-30s this March.

The employment numbers will be what they usually are (give or take based on the Chicago market).

I know I'm beating the living shit out of a dead horse, but it needs to be said: this isn't a law school problem, this is an ABA problem. I rarely agree with MTal, but this really is the tip of the iceberg. The entire thing needs reformed. I'm not sure if litigation like this is the answer, but it's a start.

I agree that the schools need to undergo massive reforms, but when do you hold the students who made these poor decisions accountable? They had delusions of grandeur that could not have been quashed by even the most transparent of statistics. I hope the settlements are small and the changes large. These graduates don't deserve a couple million dollars in damages.

They deserve the right that all those who borrowed against their means enjoy: bankruptcy.

I definitely agree the students need to be held accountable for this too...I too once had desires to apply to a John Marshall or golden gate after they flooded my mailboxes both physical and email with fee waivers And brochures...some even offering 30,000 scholarships before I even apply...but by looking this forum for not a couple of hours I knew that would be a mistake...the information is out there about these schools even if it's not from the schools itself students have to just be diligent enough to find it...how does somebody justify going in hundreds of thousands of debt and not even doing basic google searches about law school and stumble across this forum...that. Eing said reform does need to. Come for these schools as well.
