Why are extremely high-scoring candidates rejected? Forum

This mainly applies to HLS. On Law School Numbers almost everybody with 174+,3.9+ is admitted into HLS. However, there are a few people every year with scores in that range who are rejected. What differentiates these candidates? Do they not have any soft factors or is there something else?

I've definitely read some absolutely terrible personal statements from HYS hopefuls, ones that put their character into question. That's how I imagine those people.

All it takes is a few poorly written sentences, an arrogant tone in your essay, or a few typos. They have so many other qualified applicants to choose from.

Mostly they just ding people that speculate about their admissions practices online. Other than that, everybody with high #s gets in.
