is it too late to apply?

I am waiting on a recommendation from my employer and was going to wait until next year to apply, but am thinking I might send out a few apps this cycle to see what happens. Is it even worth the time? Has all scholarship money pretty much been distributed by now? It would be early to mid-February before I got my apps out.

Do you mind telling me why? Will applying to a few places this cycle hurt me if I decide to instead pursue next cycle (and apply to the same schools)? Unfortunately, I am not getting any younger and am already a bit older than my peers will be.

1 year isn't a large difference. 21 is roughly the same as 22. 41 is roughly the same as 42. It's not going to hurt you, but it is a waste of time.

Because admissions is on a rolling basis:

1. You are less likely to get accepted since they have already finished the majority of their acceptances.
2. Even if you were to get accepted, you are less likely to get scholarship money since they have already doled out a lot of their scholarship budget.
3. Even if you did get money, you are less likely to get as much since they have given a lot out already.

If you apply early next cycle you will likely get more acceptances and more scholarship money than you would if you applied right now. Sure you could apply now but that's a waste of money, fee waivers, and time imo. If this were December then it might hurt you slightly but it would still be worth doing, but this is the end of the cycle and, at least in my opinion, it's a waste since you would be better off waiting till Sept to apply and save that money/time/waivers.

I applied last year in late february / early March and got into the schools I thought I would get into and waitlisted at the reaches. I decided to go because I got into the school I said I wanted to go to.

This is possible. It's also possible that you could outperform your numbers/stats if you apply early. You'd also have a better chance at cash. If you'd like to be in the best possible position with no regrets, you will wait. If you just want to be in school, apply now.

Schools will NOT look kindly on you not accepting an offer this cycle and re-applying next cycle. So I don't see the point if those aren't your top choices and you weren't going to get money anyway.
Oh ok this is helpful to know. I did not know if they even kept a record of who applied/got accepted and who didn't. I think I will retake the LSAT in June and apply in August.
