People who apply AFTER you with decisions rendered sooner...

Post by turkey » Thu Jan 19, 2012 4:03 pm

A friend of mine applied a couple of weeks after I did to the same school. Our numbers are fairly similar but our PS/post-grad experience is vastly different (I am much older than he is). He went "decision rendered" today and I am still under review. Reading too much into things I am sure but went complete before he did.

Hope it's a good sign for me...(for him too), but seems weird to me that I would go complete and submit sooner but still have no decision.

Probably something about his application swayed the admissions people one way or the other. Don't worry too much about it. I doubt it's much of a concern.

One of you might have your application file in the hands of a professor who procrastinates more about reviewing them.

I've wondered about this. How much does the personality of the reviewer have to do with it? Quite a bit, I bet.

Maybe he got dinged due to the lack of w/e and you're still in consideration.

Don't stress. You're fine. Could be any number of things going on.

Thanks. Just frustrating when I now see people on lawschoolnumbers who now have applied after me and have gotten acceptance letters. Not gonna stress (ok I will).

Plus, these people are getting scholarship money...so kinda frustrating too.

This same situation happened to me just now.

Friend with identical numbers (she had a slightly higher LSAT), just got a decision on 1/23 even though I submitted before her. My app is still just complete. I'm really worried now as the school in question is my top choice.

I guess it's important to note she is a mexican URM. So, maybe I shouldn't freak out just yet? Overall her app is way stronger than mine, regardless of numbers, but still.... I am freaking out as I'm right around median at the school in question.

Thanks for being positive. it helps. if you get someone that procrastinates, does that hurt your chances of scholarship money? it seems like it makes it not matter if you applied early if someone else jumps ahead of you, ya know.

if you have similar numbers and she is a URM that makes her app substantially stronger. it may have been enough to push her into auto-admit territory. if your numbers are median for LSAT and GPA for the most recent admitted class i wouldn't worry too much, that makes you a solid candidate for admission, especially in a down year for applications.

I guess you're right. However, I really wanted a tiny bit of money from the school. People with similar numbers (but slightly stronger as they were the closest I could find on LSN) got some money with stipulations and I really want to snag that deal as well. The wait time vs. the quick turn around for me friend just means I have less chance at money!

1 point + URM means that she's like 8 points higher than you are.

That's a good way of looking at things.
