idk. i don't think 170 3.3 has a decent shot at penn.... u really need a 171 for mvp, and then ud only get if u ed.iamrobk wrote:You have a good chance at Penn with ED if you increase 1-2 points, and a good chance without ED with a 174+. Probably similar for MV too.

It's not unreasonable to think 170/3.3 with ED has a decent shot at penn. Searching LSN with the appropriate filters supports this.AriGoldButNicer wrote:idk. i don't think 170 3.3 has a decent shot at penn.... u really need a 171 for mvp, and then ud only get if u ed.iamrobk wrote:You have a good chance at Penn with ED if you increase 1-2 points, and a good chance without ED with a 174+. 4/4 seems like a decent shot to me but of course it's a really small sample.

Re: Do what you do best, TLS
The nice thing about EDing to Michigan over UVA/Penn is supposedly they still consider ED applicants for schollys, although the whole starting in the summer thing is a bit weird.InGoodFaith wrote: Can't tell you how much time I've spent looking at Penn's LSN data. I'd feel secure with 172+. 170 or 171 would be a tougher call for me in terms of where to use my ED. That's when I would look to ED to Michigan most likely.

Re: Do what you do best, TLS
I think the 170 line looks better this time of year than it will later in the cycle. I can think of at least one 170 app with a smaller split than yours who was deferred this cycle. That said, 172+ should be totally doable for you given your current score. Retaking and polishing every part of your app in the meantime is the right call.InGoodFaith wrote:Can't tell you how much time I've spent looking at Penn's LSN data. IMO, if you're not being turned down by at least your reachiest reach (or at least W/L), then you're not reaching far enough. Retake and V is totally yours.

Re: Do what you do best, TLS
This was pretty much my line of thinking. The worst thing that's happened so far was Fordham waitlisted me at the end of December, and then accepted me about two weeks later in January. I didn't even send a LOCI or any updatesOpie wrote:IMO, if you're not being turned down by at least your reachiest reach (or at least W/L), then you're not reaching far enough. Retake for a near sure thing ED to UVA. Penn isn't that great a shot though.

I think he's just saying that out of MVP uva is more likely to happen than Penn or Michigan. The typical response from TLS for splitters has always been retake, ED to uva given how splitter friendly they are. Personally, I would say if you can score 172+ on the retake just ED to your favorite out of those 3.

Re: Do what you do best, TLS
You don't have to just pick one, though. UVa's ED turnaround is so quick (15 days, iirc?) that you can ED there the first day it's available, and then take a second swing at P or M if you get dinged. The only downside to that is that P is his first choice. It doesn't really work the other way around (P, then, if rejected, V), because Penn's not obligated to respond until December or January, and V prefers their EDs to be there early in the cycle.Errzii wrote:I think he's just saying that out of MVP uva is more likely to happen than Penn or Michigan. Re: Do what you do best, TLS
After having already withdrawn, I just received a full tuition offer from Cardozo with a 2.95 stip (top 80%). I currently reside in South Jersey, but I went to school in North Jersey and have multiple legal contacts there. Would love to work in New York. Is this an option? The thought of not having any debt aside from cost of living is appealing...

I don't think it is really an option, especially if you want biglaw. If you would be happy doing an okay PI job, then yes, consider it.InGoodFaith wrote:After having already withdrawn, I just received a full tuition offer from Cardozo with a 2.95 stip (top 80%). We have similar #'s and I am interested to see what happens with your cycle next year. Best of luck!

Re: Do what you do best, TLS
I would definitely say retake LSAT and reapply, with a focus on Virginia/Northwestern.

Re: Do what you do best, TLS
With an extra point on the LSAT and some well written essays Mich is a very real possibility.
If you kill the LSAT Virginia is a very real possibility.
If for some reason you really want V and can afford to you could think about establishing residency thus increasing your chances.

Re: Do what you do best, TLS
1) try to negotiate BU and Fordham. Doesn't hurt to ask for a scholly. If you get a decent amount, that might sway you
2) take June LSAT. If you do really well, you can withdraw from wherever you've deposited. If you bomb, then you also have an answer
Dozo for free is an option, but it depends on your long term goals and how important minimal debt is.
Make a decision based on what you have, then retake and reevaluate when the results come in

InGoodFaith,
What about finding a more exciting job and career and forgetting law school? Why do you have to either go to law school or "[c]ontinue working boring job and suck it up, nancy"? Aren't there more options in life?
But with the three options you mention, definitively retake. Paying for law school right now and for the foreseeable future is a stupid move.

Re: Do what you do best, TLS
You are probably going to need to ED to any of MVP to get in and doing so would give you a good shot at any of the 3.
If you don't ED be prepared for WLs, don't expect to get into any off the bat though it wouldn't be totally unheard of.
That assumes you manage a 172+
I applied with a 175/3.3 this year so I've spent a good deal of time combing over LSN for various years as well as having anecdotal evidence from my own cycle.

Congrats TLS, you've scared me away from law school for now. I'll be back next cycle for your advice. Now it's time to hit the LSAT books and occasionally troll here.
