T-30 at sticker v TT with $$$?

Post by llachans » Mon Jan 09, 2012 5:00 pm

Which would you choose and why?

Edit: For those wanting more specifics:

T-30 at Iowa.
Lower schools: Michigan State and DePaul (75% tuition),
L & C, U Oregon, U Tennessee, Chicago - Kent (still awaiting scholarship info)

It depends on how much $$$ we are talking and which schools you are choosing from.

Depends on your aspirations. If you want a shot at big law, then the first option. If PI or much smaller firms are what you are after, then the second option doesn't sound too bad if the scholarships are substantial. Kind of my dilemma right now.

I meant it more generally because I haven't seen this question explicitly addressed.

For me the T-30 is Iowa while the other schools include Michigan State, U Tennessee, L & C, U Oregon, DePaul, and Chicago - Kent. Mich State & DePaul have both offered me 75% tuition while I'm still waiting on other scholarship offers. I'm originally from Chicago which is the only reason I really applied to DePaul and Kent (I realize their employment prospects are terrible).

Michigan State was a 2.5. I think DePaul was also around that range.

Where are you from? Regardless, I'd.

Retake and get into better schools.

As someone who can relate, I guess it comes down to what I want with my career. Tough to reverse-engineer that decision before I have even attended a class. If you go T-30 at sticker but don't graduate top 25% or so you will have massive debt that I imagine will take decades to pay off. Tier 2 and you still have three years opportunity cost and COL, but can dig yourself out more easily, although your career options are much more limited.

Chicago, unfortunately. I did my undergrad at Iowa.

Does Iowa at sticker actually mean instate tuition at Iowa? If so, go for Iowa.

Your other options are all over the place. I wouldn't take Depaul or Kent, but the Oregon schools or Tennessee wouldn't be bad if you're from there and want to remain there.

Even if it's a third time... three scores no effect on CCN?

I'm not sure if I qualify or not, although I believe Iowa residency is easy to achieve. Only the first year *might* be out-of-state tuition.

I don't have regional ties to Oregon or Tennessee, but I've always wanted to live in either one. I have family in Oregon. I really can't stand the midwest.

Evidence suggest no.

It's pretty damn hard to get a job in TN if you're not from TN or go to school at UT-Knoxville or Vanderbilt. Even if you do go to those, it's an uphill battle. If you don't go to school in TN and not from TN, you're probably gonna be SOL.

In an above post, I said I was considering University of TN - Knoxville.
