Top Law Schools

I've tried to cut down my personal statement to exactly two pages. It fits perfectly if I change the font size....I read on another thread that size 11 pt font Times New Roman is acceptable if absolutely necessary. Is this true for all schools? Specifically GW. I am attempting to submit in the next 45 mins.

I used 11 point font for my PS and it hasn't hurt me. I think you'll be fine.

1. It's "yea."
2. It really, really, really doesn't matter (unless the school specifically says 12 pt font.)

Using Times New Roman as the font for your personal statement is a more egregious error than cutting font size.

Use Times New Roman.

11 point size font is fine unless the school specifically says you have to use 12 point size. See --LinkRemoved-- (it's a bit dated but it gives you a general set of guidelines).

You have a lot of choices. I would recommend one of the following:

Goudy Old Style
Sabon
Miller
Palatino Linotype
Century
Yale Design

Also, I would recommend just buying this book now: http://www.amazon.com/Typography-Lawyer ... 465&sr=8-1 I read it for fun during 1L summer, and I know that people like Judge Easterbrook and Bryan Garner hold that book in very high regard (Frank Easterbrook gave a talk on kerning, ligature, font selection, etc. at the start of his seminar this quarter).

The designers of Times New Roman had narrow newspaper columns in mind when designing the font—that's where it has its maximum readability. Some law professors won't even accept your exam if it's written in Times New Roman.

Haha wow I'm constantly amazed by how much stuff I see brought up on this site that I would never otherwise consider. Like not using Times New Roman font? I've used it for every paper I've ever written! Since I already submitted my apps, I guess Times New Roman will have to do. I'll definitely be reading that book though.

TNR is absolutely and completely fine for admissions purposes.

Okay, now that actually is a protip - if Easterbrook and Garner are on board... more loan money out the window I suppose.

Some fonts can't be properly converted by PDF converters, so if you are being creative, be sure to check the result.

What are some good iWork for Mac fonts?

I've heard helvetica is the easiest font to read in the world. Not sure how it is received for essays?

I think I remember some applications specifically instructing you to use either Times New Roman or Arial font.... But I do like Garamond.
